This is a newly developed Consultant Clinical Psychologist role, and the post holder will take on the position of Clinical and Professional lead for the Tier 4 CAMHS Psychology Service, across the different departments in Tier 4.

This is a permanent full-time post, developed to improve the professional structure of psychology within the service, and will give the postholder the opportunity to help shape CWP’s Children, Young People and Families Mental Health Services.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will take on a new Consultant Psychologist position, designed to have overall leadership, professionally and clinically for Clinical Psychology staff within Tier 4 CAMHS. This will be based at Ancora House, Chester, and the post covers the two CAMHS Inpatient wards, the Eating disorder Tier 4 service (CHEDS), and the psychology input for Ancora Care (a Home based treatment service set within our Assessment and Outreach Team).
There will be a significant role in supervision of senior and other qualified Clinical Psychology staff, and the role will include holding a reasonable clinical caseload. A high degree of multi-disciplinary working is key, and there will be significant liaison with other agencies as required.

Contributing to Service development will be important, as well as involvement in training others, and developing the psychological knowledge of other professionals within the Tier 4 service.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS – including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology
  • Member of HCPC
Desirable criteria
  • Post-doctoral training in one of more additional relevant specialised areas of psychological practice.
  • Approved clinician status

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential criteria
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, formulation, intervention and evaluation frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration
  • Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological approaches relevant to people across the full spectrum of psychological problems. Demonstrates further advanced / specialist knowledge and skills gained through additional postdoctoral training, and / or CPD and supervised practice
  • Knowledge of relevant NHS structures, processes and policies. Capacity to interpret & communicate complex policies to others, particularly in respect of implications for meeting psychological components of care. Able to effectively implement same and use as basis for strategic planning across one or more organisations
  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and / or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practised within the clinical fields of psychology.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS.
Desirable criteria
  • Familiarity with theory & practice of management & organisational change and principles of leadership.
  • Formal supervision and / or mentoring training.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist
  • Extensive experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation & intervention with clients across all care settings, including community, primary care and inpatient settings
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems and verbal and physical abuse.
  • Experience of the professional management of qualified and prequalified clinical psychologists and of other professionals.
  • Experience of policy and service development and of initiating and implementing service improvements & developments in both specialist and generic areas.
  • Experience of organising and chairing meetings.
  • Experience of managing referrals and waiting lists and contributing to the strategic development of services
