apartmentUniversity Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust placeCoventry calendar_month

Job overview

As part of our commitment to patients and delivery of a world class service for all we have created the UHCW Improvement (UHCWi) System in partnership with the Virginia Mason Institute in Seattle; this involves a structured approach to removing waste and putting the patient first using a lean management system and methodologies.
Our culture and ways of working reflect and embed the practices and methodologies of UHCWi. You are expected, where identified, to attend and complete relevant training and development opportunities to support this. This may include Lean for Leaders, Advanced Lean Training, and the Human Factors Programme, amongst others.

Full attendance and completion of identified courses is considered essential and a prerequisite for this post.

The post holder will share leadership of services for patients with malignant haematological disorders and development of the services for these patients (see specific aims below).

Interviews to take place on 28th March 2025

As part of the consortium of 12-13 consultants working at three Trusts (including South Warwickshire University Foundation Trust (SWFT) and George Eliot Hospital Trust (GEH)), the post holder will participate in the “Countywide”, on call rota, which provides advice to all Acute and Community services in Coventry and Warwickshire, the “COW” (consultant of the week) attending rota, covering intensive inpatient work on ward 34, rest of UHCW and take a share of overnight on call.

Main duties of the job

1 To be responsible for the care of their own in patients on Ward 34 at UHCW. To attend the weekly joint ward round and make at least one other visit to the ward to see own inpatients each week

2 To provide continuing responsibility for patients in their charge and work in partnership with colleagues for the proper function of the department.

3 To take part in the overnight on call rotas on an equal basis (adjusted for part time colleagues) with consultant colleagues (approximately 2 in 12) to ensure that appropriate emergency services are provided out of normal working hours across the whole county.

The out-of-hours medical cover for Haematology beds (at all the hospitals) is provided by Core Medical Trainees from medical rotations, covered from home by either a Haematology specialist trainee or directly by a consultant Haematologist. When a specialist trainee is on call (approximately 30% of weekdays and 50% of weekend days) then a consultant Haematologist is available at all times in an advisory capacity.

4 To participate in the COW rota (approximately 1 in 8) and county-wide on-call rota (approximately 1 in 13) as detailed above.

The Supporting Information Section in your application should therefore reflect your understanding of the Trust’s Values and associated Behaviours. You will be expected to provide us with examples from work experience and/or personal life which demonstrate these values through your behaviour.

The Trust is committed to Equal Opportunities within the workplace. All vacancies will be considered for Job Share unless otherwise stated. All applicants who have a disability and who meet the minimum criteria for the job will be interviewed.

Where a post has an overwhelming response, this Trust may use random selection in order to reduce numbers to interview, any disabled applicants will automatically be guaranteed an interview and will be exempt from this process.

In submitting an application form, you authorise University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust to confirm from your previous or current NHS employer and other prior employers; previous NHS service details and personal data held about you, including Occupational Health data (inoculations and screening tests).

UHCW NHS Trust, by virtue of its Green Plan, is committed to ensuring that the way we provide services minimises the impact on the environment and the future health of the public e.g. zero waste to landfill, reducing our carbon footprint and increasing our recycling and reuse percentages.

If you are successful at interview you will receive a conditional offer of employment and we’ll ask you for information so that we can carry out pre-employment checks. You must successfully complete all pre-employment checks to progress to a final unconditional offer.

We must confirm the identity of our staff and their right to work in the United Kingdom. We will ask you to submit proof of your identity and right to work documents via a secure digital platform approved by the Home Office, named TrustID. Alternatively, you may be asked to attend our office with original documents.

Depending on you level of exposure with patients you may be required to undertake a Standard or Enhanced DBS. The cost of this check will be charged to you and will be deducted from your salary over the first 3 months of employment at the current rate.

All correspondence will be sent by email; please check your account regularly including your Junk/SPAM folders
