The Role

We are seeking an intern to join our Energy Infrastructure Transition team, providing a valuable opportunity to gain experience in engineering and consultancy within a dynamic and rapidly evolving sector. This role offers a stepping stone into your career, working alongside highly experienced professionals specialising in engineering, techno-economic analysis, and management consultancy.

Our team focuses on power, clean fuels, waste, and industrial heat decarbonisation, covering strategy through to implementation and addressing both technical and economic aspects. With a growing portfolio of energy technology, policy, and strategy projects, we are committed to driving the transition to a sustainable future.

Please note this opportunity is only open to students currently enrolled at university.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support senior consultants in delivering projects to clients from day one.
  • Conduct research and analysis to underpin consultancy work, developing strategic, technical, commercial, and regulatory expertise in the energy sector.
  • Manage time across multiple projects, contributing to all phases, including data analysis, techno-economic modelling, and report development.
  • Assist in preparing proposals to win new contracts.
  • Ensure the quality and timely delivery of work, collaborating with consultants and teams to integrate contributions into wider project outputs.
  • Receive professional development support to enhance skills and career progression.

  • Green Hydrogen strategy for a region or organisation.
  • Industrial process decarbonisation.
  • Strategies for carbon capture and storage (including negative emissions).
  • Heat decarbonisation solutions, including sizing for buildings and heat networks.
  • Energy from waste project feasibility.
  • Smart grid and power network innovation projects.
  • Feasibility and implementation studies for renewable energy projects.
  • Transport energy feasibility and implementation projects for road, rail, aviation, and marine sectors.
  • Developing technical and economic energy sector regulatory frameworks in developing countries.
Key Competencies and Experience
  • Strong numeracy, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proactive, organised approach with a commitment to high-quality work.
  • Pursuing a strong degree in engineering (process/chemical, electrical, energy systems, or similar) or economics, with an interest in energy infrastructure and sustainable transition.
  • Proficient in MS Office tools, particularly Excel, including data manipulation and modelling.
  • Passionate about energy sector transition, innovation, and sustainability, with an interest in the scope of the Energy Infrastructure Transition team.
  • Effective communicator with excellent written and spoken English, including formal report writing, digital communication, and presentations.
  • Ability to break down complex research questions, think creatively, and solve novel problems.
Desirable Competencies and Experience
  • Previous experience in the energy transition industry or consultancy.
  • Fluency in additional languages, particularly Spanish, French, or Portuguese.
  • Familiarity with software tools such as Python, Homer Pro, Helioscope, PV/Syst, DigSilent, PSS/E, PowerWorld, and/or PLEXOS.
