Band 7 Specialised Occupational Therapist NHS Private unit

Royal Free, Hampstead site

This role is for an experienced Occupational Therapist seeking an opportunity to work within the NHS Private Patient Unit (PPU) multi-professional therapy team. The team comprises of Physiotherapists, Therapy assistants, and a dietitian.

The individual will be an astute senior Occupational Therapist who possesses significant understanding of, and ability to, apply clinical leadership alongside impeccable customer service provision in a commercial environment.

This role requires an Occupational therapist with diverse experience ideally across different areas of medicine, surgery, care of the elderly, renal, orthopaedics, etc…, because the PPU operates as a small hospital within a hospital potentially covering any and all parts of clinical care.

The successful candidate will report to PPU lead therapy. They will be professionally supported and will have required clinical supervision by our colleagues in the NHS.

  • As an autonomous practitioner, to be responsible for the provision of a highly specialist, evidence-based therapy service to the private unit patients. Specialities includes, neurology, ICU step down, orthopaedics, elderly care, medicine and surgery.
  • To have operational and line management responsibility for team of therapists.
  • To have clinical supervision responsibility for one or more therapists.
  • To be responsible for the continuing development of a highly specialist therapy service, providing expert advice and guidance for other healthcare professionals.
  • To lead on the development and implementation of multi-professional education and training programmes within the unit/trust.
  • To participate in research and development by initiating, planning and undertaking clinical audits/research projects to evaluate and develop the specialist therapy service and produce evidence-based resources, policies and guidelines and support other staff to do this.
  • To support staff with service development in order to ensure provision of a high quality, patient-centred and clinically effective service.
  • To lead on complex discharges planning.
