We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Epitranscriptomics to join the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research within the Nuffield Department of Medicine.

You will be working on The Ludwig Clinical Research Programme with the aim to elucidate the molecular function of RNA modifications in cancer development and treatment. The research programme is an initiative from the research laboratories of Professor Xin Lu and Professor Chunxiao Song.

You will work at the interface of the two groups, utilizing the recently developed state-of-the-art RNA pseudouridine modification sequencing technology to study the role of pseudouridine and pseudouridine synthases (PUS) in cancer.

You will be responsible for conducting original research within the context of the group, analysing detailed and complex qualitative and/ or quantitative data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate.

You will supervise and train junior staff in molecular biology and tumour immunology, carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions, and research groups. You will manage your own academic research and administrative activities, this involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines.

It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil (or close to completion) in Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/Biology/Chemistry or a related science degree, together with relevant experience. You will have a skill set in Chemical Biology/Molecular Biology/Biochemistry techniques and previous experience with NGS techniques for epitranscriptomics and RNA modification sequencing, as well as in development of novel, NGS-based nucleic acid modifications sequencing.

Previous knowledge in nucleic acid chemistry and biology and experience of communicating results clearly and logically as part of a diverse research team are essential to the role. You will also have at least one peer-reviewed first author research paper in a relevant subject (e.g. epitranscriptomics) in high impact science journals.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract until 22 December 2027 and is funded by Ludwig.

Only applications received before 12 midday on Tuesday 11 February 2025 will be considered. Please quote 177875 on all correspondence.
