Job overview

An exciting development opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Psychologist with an interest in working with young people with eating disorders within North Cumbria CYPS.

The successful candidate will work with the multi-disciplinary Community Eating Disorder Service (CEDS). The team works in close partnership with the Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health pathway, and dedicated Children’s crisis service.

This post has the option to be a Band 7 to 8a Clinical Psychology development post. The preceptorship option is a fully supported development post with progression to the Band 8A role upon successful completion of a defined Preceptorship programme.

This is not an entitlement to band progression but is based upon the successful achievement of a mutually agreed development plan as monitored by the candidate and their Psychology Lead.

It is expected that the development plan will be met at a minimum of 18 months in the Band 7 role and a maximum of 3 years. This timescale will be dependent on the experience of the candidate and will be fully supported by the organisation in terms of supervision, relevant CPD, training and learning opportunities.

In the event that the elements of the development plan are not fully achieved as assessed by the relevant Psychology Lead within the pre-agreed timescale, the role will remain as a Band 7 and this outcome will be managed as part of the contract conditions agreed with the candidate at the outset.

Main duties of the job

You will be a Clinical Psychologist or Senior Clinical Psychologist in an established multi-disciplinary team. You will be responsible for providing high quality evidence based psychological assessments, formulations and therapy to children, young people (up to the age of 18), and their families.
You will be responsible for leading on psychological provision through consultations, MDTs, and supervision. You will provide advice, consultation and training to colleagues, and to other non-professional carers, on psychological aspects of assessment, formulation, care and treatment.

You will support service development through audit and research.

In this role you will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures. We believe in the value of supervision you will be responsible for providing supervision to Psychologists, Trainee and Assistant Psychologist, and CYPs Clinicians.

You will also receive your own regular supervision and CPD opportunities.

Working for our organisation

The CYPS service and CEDS pathway has a strong development culture and seeks learning and leadership opportunities for its team members at all levels, including actively encouraging the development and promotion of the service through various initiatives.

There is a robust supervision culture, and the service regularly seeks out creative projects and opportunities for co-production with the communities it serves. We are also involved in teaching and shared learning within our partnerships, including working with universities and their psychology trainees.

We aim to attract and retain a diverse, talented and committed workforce, who are caring and compassionate, and therefore able to meet the demands of the modern NHS now and in the future. In return we can offer a dynamic working environment in which to build a career.
