Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Location: Field-Based

Recruitment Partner: Daniel White, Daniel.White1@boots.com

We are seeking an experienced Construction Project Manager with a strong background in retail construction, fit‑out, and refurbishment to support with successful delivery of the Boots Uk development programme.

The role is focused on leading the delivery of multiple retail projects, relocations, downsizes and refreshes —ensuring they are completed on time, on budget, and in line with brand and technical standards.

This position has a focus on management of external partners, contractors, and key internal stakeholders involved in overall project delivery.
What you’ll be doing
As a Project Manager in our Property team, you will oversee construction projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
Key responsibilities
  • Project Delivery & Programme Management
  • Lead end‑to‑end delivery of retail construction projects, from feasibility through to handover.
  • Develop and manage project programmes, ensuring smooth coordination of design, procurement, and construction phases.
  • Oversee fast‑paced roll‑out and refurbishment programmes with minimal disruption to trading operations.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, quality, health & safety compliance, and contractor performance.
Budget & Cost Control
  • - Work closely with QS and finance teams to prepare and take ownership of project budgets, monitor spend, and forecast final costs.
  • Manage change control, contractor variations, and value‑engineering opportunities.
  • Ensure cost‑efficient delivery while maintaining required quality and brand standards.
Contractor & Supplier Management
  • - Procure and manage external contractors, consultants, and specialist suppliers.
  • Oversee tender processes, contract negotiations, and performance management.
  • Lead site meetings, progress reviews, and issue resolution with all project partners.
Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement
  • - Collaborate with internal teams including design, property, operations, merchandising, and retail management.
  • Communicate project progress, risks, and milestones to stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.
  • Ensure that construction delivery aligns with brand guidelines, store operations requirements, and commercial objectives.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
  • - Ensure all projects comply with UK building regulations, The Building Act, CDM requirements, H&S legislation, and company standards.
  • Ensure all project diligence is completed in regard to completion of business process protocols – Inception to hand over
  • Review design information and provide technical input during pre‑construction stages.
  • Lead snagging, commissioning, and handover processes to ensure a high-quality end product.
  • Support with development and implementation of project delivery improvement processes.
Team Management Support
  • - Provide occasional support, guidance, and task oversight to junior project coordinators or assistants.
  • Support professional development through mentoring rather than formal line management.
  • Maintain a collaborative and supportive team culture across internal and external partners.
What you’ll need to have (our must-haves)
  • Proven experience delivering retail, commercial fit‑out, or fast‑track construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, design coordination, and store operations.
  • Strong understanding of current Building Regulations, The Building Act and CDM Regulations
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience managing external contractors and design teams.
  • Proficiency with project management tools and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience within supermarket, high‑street retail, or hospitality environments.
  • Knowledge of sustainability standards and modern methods of construction.
  • Understanding of landlord approval processes and planning requirements.

It would be great if you also had:

  • Professional qualification preferrable (e.g., MCIOB, MAPM, MRICS pathway, or equivalent experience)
