Location: Aurora Cedars, Wolverhampton
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Term time only

Salary: £14.77 p/hr to £16.13 p/hr depending on qualifications and experience (Annual salary £26,391 to £28,821)

Aurora Cedars School in Wolverhampton will offer a bespoke education provision for up to 80 pupils aged 5-19 who have ASC/SEMH needs. The curriculum is creative and personalised for the pupils to ensure that we provide them with the best opportunities to succeed.

The building has been being redeveloped, and work has been done to design the look and feel of the school to ensure it fulfils its potential of being an amazing learning environment with facilities to allow students to access a varied curriculum in a calm and nurturing environment with a team that strives to give every student the confidence and opportunities to achieve.

We are currently looking for a HLTA Active Citizens to join our new school. It is an exciting time to be part of Aurora and this is a unique career opportunity to make your mark on our growing services.

The main purpose of the role:

To develop and run our bespoke Active Citizens Curriculum at Aurora Cedars. Providing outdoor and off-site activities, visits and trips to expand the opportunities and learning outcomes for our pupils. Working closely with the Active Citizens Lead and Senior Leadership Team to ensure the Active Citizens Curriculum is inclusive, varied and engaging.

In consultation with the Headteacher, support with the delivery of the curriculum at Aurora Cedars.

Key duties:

  • Supporting the Active Citizens Lead in all areas of the day to day running of the Active Citizens Curriculum for Aurora Cedars School..
  • Leading in the absence of any Class Teacher/Active Citizens Lead across the school.
  • Supporting the SENCO in ensuring the inclusion of all pupils and ensuring positive behaviour management strategies are being deployed effectively.
  • Ensuring EHCP's are being followed and strategies reviewed as necessary
  • Respond to the varying and changing needs of the school and adapt to any task presented to achieve the smooth running of the school.
  • Contribute to providing high quality, challenging and differentiated educational activities and experiences through teaching a broad and balanced curriculum aiming at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning.
  • Establish a warm, caring and supportive relationship with pupils in order to support them feeling safe and enabling them to enjoy and learn during their time at the School.
  • Promote and encourage independence and personal development in pupils and maintain high expectations of behaviour at all times.
  • Liaise with SLT to develop the Active Citizens Curriculum.
  • Ensuring budgets are followed in line with school budget expectations.
  • Complete and submit risk assessments in line with Aurora Policies to ensure the health and safety of all students and staff are adhered to.

Skills and Qualifications

Qualifications
  • The Higher Level Teaching Assistant Diploma or equivalent or willingness to work towards
Knowledge and Experience
  • Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN, SEMH and ASD
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
  • Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge.
  • Experience working within education is advantageous
  • Experience of working within a multi-cultural, inclusive setting
Skills and Behaviours
  • Commitment to the role, the desire to put the child first and treat them as an individual
  • Be positive and creative in meeting pupils’ needs
  • Work on your own as well as part of a team with good interpersonal skills
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Competent ICT skills
