Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it.Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.

Job overview
This is a role which will be key to the Trust’s role as leader and influencer in South EastLondon and to achieving Essentia’s strategic ambitions. The role is a crucial post in
ensuring that GSTT is compliant with legal and statutory requirements and that all fire
safety regulations under current codes of practice are addressed across a complex and
multi-site organisations. The postholder:- Be the Trust’s lead expert for fire safety providing expert professional advice to the Trust board and senior management on all current fire safety legislation and RRO.

Main duties of the job
Please see the attached job description for the duties of the role. Whilst these aren't exhaustive they cover the main duties. The successful candidate will need to be able to:-- Oversee the development and implementation of capital procurement policies for the Estates Service (Fire) responsible for development of capital projects policies (Fire) for the Trust.
- Review & ensure all fire policies are up to date and relevant to any legislative changes.
- Develop highly complex fire plans across the Trust and ensure that these are put in place across the trust.
- Oversee regular fire safety audits and risk assessment for all departments.
- Oversee the implementation of systems, control processes and risk management arrangements to support monitoring of compliance with agreed standards, other trust-wide policies and processes and best practice requirements.
- Advise Director of Compliance & Assurance, Essentia Leadership Team, Trust Board and Senior Management as required on all current fire safety legislation, ensuring that legal compliances maintained under the current codes of practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Planning, Quality & Improvement- Lead the fire policy implementation and development of fire management &
- Oversee the annual undertaking of highly complex risk assessments and
- Oversee the conduct of a range of fire related surveys and audits.
- In conjunction with the wider team, monitor the provision and maintenance of fire
- Implement regular fire safety audits on an annual, 24-month and 36-month basis and
with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Person specification
Skills
Essential criteria- Ability to analyse complex problems and to develop practical and workable solutions to address them.
- Significant in -depth knowledge, of the regulatory reform order, Firecode and HTM 05.01, managing healthcare fire safety 05.02 guidance and support of functional provision in healthcare premises.
- Fire Service training college course fire training certification. Significant understanding of the relationships between various departments in order to ensure coordination of ongoing service delivery across the Trust
- Understanding of the relationships between Facilities departments and their impact on the process of Project works and compliances
- Significant experience of development of Fire Safety Policies and Procedures.
- Practical application of fire prevention theory, and highly developed specialist detailed knowledge of building fire design and construction
- Formulation and presentation of technical reports.
- Interpretation of guidance and legislation of the fire precautions Act and NHS Fire code
Experience
Essential criteria- Substantial experience of operating in a senior fire safety role in an estates and facilities context
- Fully conversant with the statutory and legal requirements that impacts on building owners and occupiers.
- Demonstrate a good knowledge of budget/financial Management.
- Substantial staff management experience which will include external contractors and their effective management.
- Significant experience gained in the process to ensure legal compliance in accordance with the various Acts of Parliament and Local by-laws required under health & safety an appreciation of the intricate language of legal documents etc.
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Master’s Degree or equivalent experience gained within Operational fire safety management
- Technical aspects of firefighting equipment. Alarm and detection systems. Structural fire precautions
- Registered with a recognised fire professional body
- The ability to understand, characteristics of fire and the science of fire prevention. Practices, guidance, and legislation concerning fire safety in relation to health care premises
- Member of the Institute fire prevention officers / Member of the Institute fire Safety Managers
- Knowledge of technical memorandums, building notes and other NHS guidance
