An outstanding special educational needs school in the East Midlands is seeking dedicated Learning Support Assistants to join their team for the new academic year. The school caters to children and young people aged 7 to 19, providing a nurturing environment for those with additional needs.

Please note: This role is only open to UK residents living in the local area, and we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for overseas applicants.

The school is part of a network of specialist schools and alternative provisions across the East Midlands that support pupils who may be considered "lost to learning" or "hard to place". They offer a broad, balanced curriculum that equips students with the skills and independence needed for adulthood.

Role:

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality learning experiences that make a lasting impact on young lives. You will support students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, promoting their engagement in both academic and social settings.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide nurturing and calming support, encouraging independence and celebrating progress.
  • Develop tailored resources to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Deliver holistic interventions that engage both students and their families.
  • Support pupils during class time and social periods, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Foster positive personal and social development in children and young people.
Skills and Experience:
  • Ability to relate well to pupils and young adults with additional needs.
  • Experience working with SEN is preferred, though personal experience or the right character fit is equally important.
  • Hold a recognised Teaching Assistant qualification (e.g. , Level 2 award/certificate in support work in schools).
  • At least two years' experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults in an educational, health, or social care setting.
  • A valid Team Teach certificate is advantageous, though training can be provided.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and de-escalate challenging situations.
  • A passion for achieving positive outcomes for children and young people.
  • Strong safeguarding awareness and commitment to following protocols.
