Residential Housemistress for Girls' Boarding House
Based near Horsham, West Sussex, Rikkyo School in England is a Japanese boarding school for boys and girls aged between 10 and 18.
At Rikkyo School, Japanese is the main language on the curriculum. It also teaches spoken and listening in English. We welcome staff of all nationalities who are flexible to work within a bicultural Japanese and British workplace.
Rikkyo School is looking for a dynamic and empathetic Houseparent for Garden House, a Boarding house for around 70 girls.
Due to the nature of the role, (Provision of services to young females), this role is exempt as a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) under Schedule 9 of The Equality Act (2010) and is therefore restricted to female only applicants.
This is currently a non-teaching position with future potential for additional responsibilities.
The successful applicant is likely to be experienced in Boarding, able to lead a team, make decisions and most importantly, be able to create a 'home from home' for Japanese children.
The position is residential and a ground floor flat is provided. The flat has a private entrance, living room with views over the Sussex countryside, kitchen/diner, two bedrooms and private parking space.
The Housemistress will take the lead for the house, working to welcome pupils at the start of each term and to be involved in the wider life of the school community. Boarding staff work on an A-B rota, with the Housemistress expected to be on duty two shifts a week and every second weekend.
