An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Physician in Medical Microbiology and Virology to join the Virology and molecular pathology team based at UHCW NHS Trust in a locum, fixed term post. Qualifications and experience equivalent to that recognised by Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists in Virology (FRCPath) achieved by examination will be considered, as will microbiology trained consultants who have an interest and suitable experience in virology.

This is a full-time post with 10 PAs associated with the job role.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a cohesive team working across infection sciences with a wide remit including three Acute Trusts and communities across Coventry and Warwickshire. Informal contacts to discuss the post are welcomed and should be made to Dr Lisa Berry or Dr Steve Laird
  • As part of a team with the existing workforce of clinical scientists and BMS staff, the post-holder will provide clinical virology services to local trusts, GUM clinics and primary care.
  • The appointee will develop close collaborative links with clinicians and work to develop services to the highest standards including the adoption of best practice guidance, the development of diagnostic and treatment protocols and all other relevant guidelines.
  • The clinical virology team have a duty virologist rota for weekends and bank holidays from 09:00 to 17:00 on Saturdays or Sundays.
  • The job is offered at 10 sessions. For both clinical scientists and medical consultants, the on call element of the job plan will be calculated as part of a 10 session / 10 PA contract, with appropriate time off during Monday-Friday. For medical staff the on call element of the job plan is estimated to be 0.5PA, with Category A availability supplement.
  • The post-holder will have a reflective approach to their own practice and will agree a programme of continuing professional development which meets both their and service provision requirements
  • Registration with and satisfactory participation in the Royal College of Pathologists Continuing Professional Development programme is a requirement of the post.
