Locum Consultant Neonatologist | University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust
Interview to be scheduled for 27th March 2025
Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant Neonatologist, to start as soon as possible, to join the neonatal team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS trust which is one of the designated neonatal intensive care units within the West Midlands Neonatal operational delivery network. The gap has arisen due changes in the current service provision. The post is initially for a period of 12 months with possibility of further extension. It is an exciting time for the unit with recently enhanced service provision in the regional neonatal transport service; established LMNS wide Neonatal Community Outreach Team (NCOT) service with UHCW as the host organisation and ongoing development of allied health professional workforce including psychology support for families and staff.
We would be delighted to receive applications from enthusiastic colleagues, established/new consultants, and senior trainees within 6 months of completion of training (CCT) who are looking for a new challenge in an enthusiastic friendly and cohesive team striving to deliver exemplary neonatal care.
N.B. We reserve the right to close a vacancy before the closing date if we receive a high volume of applications or if there has been a change in organisational priorities.
Acute clinical duties involve sharing with the other 10 Consultants, the management of the level 3 neonatal intensive care unit including labour ward, high dependency, special care, transitional care and postnatal wards at UHCW on a weekly attending basis.
Daily Consultant ward rounds are expected from the “attending” consultant with one joint consultant teaching round each week. Attendance at daily neonatal unit safety huddle and neonatal representation at the mid-day perinatal huddle on labour ward would be expected.
All Consultants are involved in the antenatal counseling of families and liaise with Obstetric colleagues regarding optimal timing and place of delivery of high-risk pregnancies. There is a weekly neonatal counseling clinic delivered by the Special Care attending consultant.Consultants also liaise with health visitors, GPs, domiciliary teams, therapists, and social services where necessary.
The planning of holidays, study leave and attendance at scientific meetings must therefore take this obligation into account, ensuring at least three Consultants are available during working hours and one for on-call.
