The Housekeeper works as part of the Private Outpatient team under the supervision of registered nurses to support housekeeping duties as specified in roles and responsibilities.

The Housekeeper should demonstrate a level of skill and understanding which enables the individual at this grade to take responsibility for specific tasks delegated by the nurse in charge or in accordance with agreed policies and procedures.

MAIN RESPONSIBILTITES
  1. At all times treat patients with dignity and respect, exercising discretion and maintaining their confidentiality.
  2. Work co-operatively with others as part of the multi-disciplinary team, helping and assisting nurses and other clinical staff in the routine work associated with housekeeping duties.
  3. Maintaining the clinical environment to prevent cross infection and promote health and safety at work.
  4. Ensure that there are adequate amount of forms, consent, pre op packs available, making more as necessary.
  5. Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of accurate documentation and contribute towards recording daily quality control and audit reports including food fridge temperatures.
  6. Ensure that coffee machines are kept clean and report any faults. Waiting area are always clean and tidy.
  7. Liaise with Domestic Supervisor with problems associated with cleaning.
  8. To report any faulty equipment or appliances and follow up repairs with Estates Department.
  9. Running of errands within the department, or external such as pharmacy, collecting notes or any other ad hoc requests.
11 .To order and top up stationary, nursing and medical paperwork.
  1. To report incidents and near misses as defined by MEH policy and follow the procedure.

Detailed Responsibilities and Duties of a Housekeeper in an Outpatient Setting

Patient Dignity and Confidentiality

Always treat patients with the utmost dignity and respect, ensuring their privacy during interactions.
Exercise discretion when handling patient information, adhering to strict confidentiality protocols.

Support the creation of a welcoming and comfortable environment for patients and their families.

Team Collaboration

Work cooperatively as part of the multi-disciplinary team, fostering a supportive and collaborative workplace.
Assist nurses and clinical staff with routine housekeeping duties, ensuring seamless operations.

Act as a reliable team member, willing to assist with additional tasks as required.

Infection Control and Safety

Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the clinical environment to prevent cross-contamination.
Adhere to infection prevention and control measures, including proper handling of cleaning supplies and equipment.

Promote a safe working environment by following health and safety guidelines.

Stock Management

Ensure adequate supplies of forms, consent documents, and pre-operative packs are available.
Replenish supplies as necessary and escalate procurement issues promptly.

Monitor stock levels of medical, nursing, and ward supplies and place orders to prevent shortages.

Feedback and Communication

Listen to constructive feedback from colleagues and supervisors to enhance performance.
Provide constructive feedback to peers to improve overall team efficiency and service delivery.

Communicate effectively with all team members, ensuring clarity and understanding of tasks.

Documentation and Audits

Understand the importance of accurate documentation and ensure proper record-keeping.
Contribute to daily quality control logs, including monitoring and recording fridge temperatures for food and medical supplies.

Participate in internal audits as needed to maintain standards.

Cleaning and Maintenance of Equipment

Ensure coffee machines and similar equipment are cleaned regularly and report faults promptly.
Keep waiting areas clean, tidy, and well-organized to enhance the patient experience.

Liaise with the Domestic Supervisor to resolve cleaning issues or address concerns.

Policy Compliance

Adhere to Trust and local policies and procedures, upholding Moorfields' values of caring, organized, excellent, and inclusive.

Stay informed of updates to organizational policies and adapt practices accordingly.

Reporting and Repairs

Report faulty equipment or appliances promptly to the Estates Department and follow up on repair progress.

Document and communicate maintenance issues to ensure timely resolution.

Errands and Administrative Support

Run departmental errands, such as collecting medications from the pharmacy or retrieving patient notes.

Respond to ad hoc requests to support clinical operations effectively.

Catering and Stock Monitoring

Oversee catering and ward stock levels, placing orders as required.

Ensure the timely replenishment of stationery and medical/nursing paperwork.

Orientation and Training

Attend Trust and local orientation programs, mandatory training sessions, and annual updates.

Actively engage in training to enhance knowledge and skills required for the role.

Personal Responsibility and Development

Take responsibility for personal practice and identify training needs to ensure competency.

Participate in annual appraisals and contribute to developing a personal performance and development plan.

Incident Reporting

Report all incidents, near misses, and hazards in line with Trust policies.

Follow established procedures for incident reporting to support a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
