Position Overview:We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Teaching Assistant to join their team. As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the lead teachers to support the learning, social development, and well-being of children with autism. The ideal candidate is patient, understanding, and eager to contribute to a positive and nurturing classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist lead teachers in delivering individualized instruction to children with autism, following tailored lesson plans and IEPs (Individualized Education Plans).
- Support students in developing communication, social, and life skills through structured activities and one-on-one guidance.
- Help manage the classroom environment by ensuring a calm, organized, and safe space for all students.
- Provide students with support during transitions, such as between activities, mealtimes, and breaks.
- Use positive reinforcement and other behaviour management techniques to assist students in meeting their behavioural and academic goals.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to monitor and assess student progress.
- Support students with personal care needs, such as feeding or hygiene, as required.
- Foster a trusting and encouraging relationship with students, building confidence and promoting independence.
- Maintain accurate records of student activities, progress, and any incidents, sharing these with the teaching team as needed.
- Attend staff meetings, training, and professional development sessions to stay informed about best practices in autism support.
