We are currently looking to recruit a motivated and experienced part time Band 6 Senior Mental Health (MH) Practitioner to join our Ely Older People’s Community Mental Health Team. This is a great opportunity to join our effective and friendly team working with a client group with more complex mental health needs.

You will be part of a team comprising Mental Health Practitioners, CPNs, Psychologists, Consultant Psychiatrist and Support Workers, enabling effective coordinated care delivery.

We provide service-user focused, evidence-based interventions for people aged 65 and over living in their own homes/care homes with either functional or organic mental health illness. We provide high quality assessment, treatment, and care coordination which is informed by your professional bodies and National policy.

The post has opportunities to develop skills and knowledge via training, working alongside experienced practitioners and to be involved in service improvement.

You will mainly be covering the city of Ely and the surrounding villages but may also cover other areas of Cambridge as needed, so regular travel is required. Successful applicants will need to have a drivers license and access to a vehicle for work.

The post is based at Princess of Wales Hospital. CPFT supports agile working, with flexibility for work-life balance. Visits to the team are welcome. There is free parking and a café onsite.

Main duties of the job

Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence* and have use of a vehicle. You cannot use public transport for this role as this is not a reliable form of transport and will not allow you to meet service needs.

You will have the opportunity to manage a caseload of service users, delivering a diverse range of clinical skills delivering therapeutic and recovery-based interventions.   • Mental Health practitioners will provide assessment and interventions for people with significant mental health conditions
  • Offer advice and guidance to colleagues in the wider team on common mental health conditions.
  • Participate in MDT meetings and ensure key information is recorded in shared care plans
  • Work closely with the mental health integrated care team in order to provide an excellent mental health service.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Relevant professional registered qualification ((Registered Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Social worker)
  • Training in supervision and appraisal
Desirable criteria
  • Post qualifying training
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification
  • Pertinent qualifications to the specialism

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant relevant experience in working within a mental health service
  • Registered Student mentor
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with older adults and/or community mental health settings
  • Have a lived experience of mental health challenges
  • Experience of clinical and managerial supervision of junior staff

Other

Essential criteria
  • Positive approach to older people
  • Willingness to embrace integrated model and new ways of working
  • Recognise peoples right to privacy and dignity, treating every person with respect
  • Willingness to be flexible in approach and attitude

Skills and abilities

Essential criteria
  • Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality care and service provision
  • Excellent clinical skill in assessment and interventions for common mental health conditions
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to summarise information and communicate with colleagues
  • Excellent understanding of the needs of carers
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people in distress or with communication difficulties
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with nursing home and care providers
  • Experience as safeguarding investigator
  • Experience of doing Best Interest Assessments

Knowledge and understanding

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of statutory framework and care commissioning including: safeguarding, commissioning of care and Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity act
  • Knowledge of research in field
