The Opportunity

Salary: £31,586 to £34,314 per annum
Working Pattern: Full time, 37 hours per week
Location: Based - Parkside, Horsham (Hybrid working)

We have an opportunity within our Finance Directorate, currently seeking a Financial Adult Safeguarding Officer to join our Financial Adult Safeguarding Team. The team is closely linked to adults' safeguarding and deals with the financial affairs of vulnerable people who lack the capacity to manage their own finances, or who are vulnerable to exploitation.

You will work in a team of Adult Safeguarding Officers operating with the Court of Protection / Office of the Public Guardian and / or the Department of Work and Pensions to deal with the property and affairs of people who lack capacity to manage these for themselves, in partnership with the social worker / care manager responsible for their social care needs.

The job involves regularly working with people on subject matter that requires sensitivity and empathy, for example when dealing with people who may be upset, confused or occasionally angry or defensive. There is a regular and intrinsic requirement to communicate in English with members of the public.

What are we looking for?
  • You will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to advise customers and members of the public on potentially complex information.
  • Be able to exercise sensitivity and empathy when working with and advising members of the public on issues which could be sensitive or difficult.
  • You will be able to effectively manage your workload and manage priorities to deliver a high-quality financial management service for customers.
  • Be comfortable responding independently to unanticipated problems or situations, such as the need to present information in a different way to enable a client with a sensory impairment or other disability to understand.
  • You will be proactive with a can-do attitude, as well as being a good team player, keen and able to work collaboratively with stakeholders and partners to achieve outcomes within a complex operating environment.
