We are seeking enthusiastic, dynamic and forward thinking Specialist Dental Nurses to join the team at our Community Dental Services Dental Nursing Team on a Substantive Basis.

We currently have a vacancy that supports multiple sites with the Birmingham Community Dental Services

Band 5 RA Sedation Specialist Dental Nurse
  1. 5 hours / 0.6 WTE

Working days to be:

Wednesday at Attwood Health Centre B15 1LZ,
Thursday at the Sparkbrook Health Centre B11 1LU,

Friday at Aston Health Centre B6 6JA

The post-holders must hold a Dental Sedation certificate, be up to date with sedation training and able to supply a copy of their CPD log relating to their sedation specialism.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder must be flexible as travel to other sites/locations within the division may be required.

The post-holder will support the clinical management of the dental specialty and ensure the provision of a high standard of patient care and that all Trust policies and procedures are adhered to.

Delivery of high-quality clinical nursing support for the specialties across Dental Services Division clinical sites to respond to the complex needs of the patients that meet the specialty criteria.

The post-holder will support the specialty to educate and develop clinical teams including undergraduate students, postgraduate, qualified dental nurses and dental nurse apprentices and have the ability to work flexibly across the dental clinical and educational service.

Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics throughout the service and manage patients with complex dental, social and medical needs

Prepare and maintain specialised dental equipment and dispose of clinical waste including bodily fluids.

Support recording of patient pre-operative assessments. E.g. height weight and blood pressure

Carry out any other duties relevant to this role specified by the Dental Nurse Manager and/or Dental Nurse Tutor(s)

Provide clinical nursing support utilising the post registration qualifications held within the department to support the clinical patient pathway.

Person specification

Education

Essential criteria
  • A Dental Nurse qualification that enables registration with the General Dental Council i.e. NVQ Level 3, Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing or Dental Nursing National Certificate in Dental Nursing / Gained entry onto GDC register via grand parenting (pre-2008)
  • Registered with the General Dental Council
  • Hold a post-registration qualification certificate or equivalent, and provide evidence of continual professional development, where relevant: Dental Sedation Nursing Special Care Dental
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised Teaching Qualification at Level 3 or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in a wide range of dentistry
  • Significant evidence of continued professional development relevant to the Specialty.
  • Computer literacy
  • Demonstrate experience of supporting undergraduates and post-registration staff to deliver high quality patient care and achieve their required educational standards.
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence service quality improvement bringing about improved patient outcomes.
  • Evidence informal and formal assessment experience in an educational or healthcare environment
