Job overview

The Associate Practitioner in Audiology will provide interventions with routine / non-complex hearing pathologies / disabilities. This will involve developing the individual care / management plan with appropriate accountability to the Audiologist.

The Associate Audiologist is NOT an independent practitioner, and it is anticipated that some clinical supervision and mentoring will be planned during the normal schedule of the working day. The role may involve some administrative duties subject to the service needs.

Main duties of the job

Provide and assist with basic adult hearing aid rehabilitation and to (under indirect supervision) deliver the patient individual management plan. Expected to perform routine audiological investigations such as Puretone audiometry for hearing aid re-assessments / reviews, tympanometry, aural impressions and programming and evaluation of hearing aid systems which would include real ear measurements under mentoring programmes.

May be required to participate and assist with paediatric audiological assessment and carry out school screening when required and provide a domiciliary service for house bound patients.

Always recognise own limits of competence and levels of responsibility and autonomy within the approved scope of practice. Maintain own personal competence and work as a reflective practitioner to deliver high quality client care.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good general level of education
  • BTEC / NVQ3 qualification or equivalent
  • Understanding of the effects of hearing impairment
  • Able to carry out hearing assessment, aural impressions and real ear measurements and have the knowledge and experience to refer
  • Select and advise patients on assistive listening devices
  • Undertake ear mould fitting and modifications
Desirable criteria
  • ECDL or equivalent
  • Working towards or holds Foundation Degree in Audiology or equivalent
  • Previous experience of working within the NHS
  • Experience of working at band 2 or 3 level in Audiology
  • Knowledge of Auditbase Audiology patient management system
  • Knowledge of paediatric and adult audiology standards
