Up to 20 Hours per week, preferably Monday to Wednesday with requirement to attend Planning Committees which are scheduled for Tuesday evenings

Skills & Experience:
Qualified barrister or solicitor or FILEX (able to obtain or has a current practising certificate)Knowledge and experience of planning law.
Working knowledge of the law and practice relating to planning, contracts, environmental health, commercial and finance.
Sound working knowledge of local government law and practice.
Experience in practice as a qualified solicitor or barrister
Experience of dealing with the public.
Excellent computer skills, to include Microsoft office packages
Good communication skills, both oral and written to include presentation of complex and contentious issues to a wide and varied audience
Ability to research and analyse complex information
What's involved with this role: As a Planning Solicitor within the Legal Services Team, you will provide expert legal advice and support on planning matters to both internal and external clients. You will manage a diverse caseload, ensuring high-quality legal services are delivered to the Council, contributing to effective decision-making in planning and development projects.
Key responsibilities:
Manage a broad caseload, providing advice on planning matters, including section 106 agreements, certificates of lawful development, planning inquiries, enforcement, and Planning Committees.Handle contentious legal matters and instruct Counsel as needed.
Undertake advocacy in Magistrates Court, County Court, High Court, planning inquiries, tribunals, and arbitration proceedings.
Provide legal advice to council service units, draft relevant documents, and address public inquiries and member queries.
Attend evening and out-of-hours meetings, including committees and pre-meets, and oversee work arising from such meetings.
Advise on various legal areas such as contracts, commercial property, local government, waste management, and licensing, for the Council and its subsidiaries.
Support subsidiary directors in understanding legal obligations, including board meeting administration and securing legal documents.
