Job Title: OT (Operational Technology) Engineer

Location: Kettering

Salary: Starting salary of £55,428 + Disturbance allowance of £2,951.02 per annum/ Benefits include pension, private healthcare, income protection etc.

The job is located at the Kettering Production Plant, where plant-based milk alternatives are produced. This role is within the Maintenance department, which is responsible for all maintenance activities across the Production and Logistics departments.

In this role, you will manage all Operational Technology (OT) equipment on site, including ethernet switches, production servers, SAN Storage, Firewalls, Server OS and Applications, Databases, and Data backups.

This is a day shift position, Monday to Friday, where you will lead the site OT Automation Engineering agenda, encompassing both IT and OT. You will be responsible for setting up, monitoring, and preparing planned maintenance schedules and security patching for OT systems, ensuring the timeliness and completeness of planned maintenance.

You will also own the OT Hardware and Software landscape, design and implement OT Infrastructure projects with external specialists, and provide input for the yearly budget cycle, ensuring the reliability of OT systems.

As the Cybersecurity Owner for Kettering, you will monitor and eliminate cyber risks, ensure compliance with the Danone Cyber Policy, and maintain the Asset Inventory and Systems Documentation. You will execute and monitor backup and restore activities and manage the Obsolescence Inventory, with your performance assessed through cybersecurity audits and system availability metrics.

You will keep all technical documentation related to OT/IT up to date and accessible for all engineers, demonstrating the ability to create and maintain architecture drawings and technical guidelines. Additionally, you will support the Maintenance Team Leader in identifying and organizing training for engineers, aiding in root cause analysis, and ensuring effective knowledge transfer.

In this role, you will also provide local OT technical support for projects, including significant work in SAN renewal, IT/OT Network Split, and Network renewal for 2024-25. Your effectiveness will be measured by the quality of information transfer, insight into technical aspects of new equipment, and the impact of your improvement proposals.

To be able to achieve the above and be successful in this role we believe you need to have:

Technical Skills:

  • Bachelors Degree in IT Computer Sciences or comparable by experience.
  • Understanding of IT/OT technology such as:
  • Servers and SAN disk storage.
  • Network architecture and technology (e.g., Cisco, Fiber and Copper networks).
  • Thin clients.
  • Cybersecurity concepts, firewall technology, PAM, Antivirus.
  • Virtualisation VMWare, VeeAm Backup and Restore.
  • Windows OS, Active Directory, Thin clients.
  • SQL server databases.
  • Have a structured approach in projects, changes, and documentation. Ad-hoc impulsive or undocumented actions must be avoided.
  • Ability to translate business needs to internal and external IT specialists.
  • Value reliability higher than technical complexity.
  • Have an interest in the manufacturing process and the application of IT/OT technology in the manufacturing context. Familiarity with PLCs and HMI is a plus.
  • At least 3 years in a similar environment.

Soft Skills:

  • Fluent communication in English.
  • Knowledge of rules and procedures in the areas of safety, quality, food safety, good manufacturing practices, human resources, and environmental protection.
  • Applied knowledge of electronics and control technology.
  • Understanding and knowledge of problem-solving techniques.
  • Good organisational and communication skills, able to interface with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Project management skills.
  • Ability to take ownership and leadership: works well both in a team and independently.
