This is a rare and exciting opportunity to lead the our mental health provision for children and young adults as a senior part of the wider nursing leadership team. We have 2 posts available covering community and inpatient mental health services which are vacant as a result of reconfiguring and strengthening our team.
As an Associate Director of Nursing, you will have professional oversight and accountability for all nursing services within the division and be a member of the divisional leadership team. We are searching for proven, high quality leaders, with a passion for transforming and delivering the best quality care for children and young adults with complex mental health needs.

You will be an exceptional leader with the ability to coach and develop teams, working across the Trust and local system. This unique opportunity will also require you to support and lead the transfer of services to Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust and develop an 'all age' strategy of care.

Main duties of the job

The Associate Director of Nursing is responsible and accountable for the operational nursing management within the Mental Health division, either within community services or inpatient wards. A key responsibility will be ensuring the optimal use of capacity and staffing within the clinical areas and that nursing staff have the required skills, knowledge and competency to deliver safe, effective high quality clinical care, ensuring value for money and effective budgetary management and control.

The post holder will support the Deputy Chief Nursing Officer in the Trust wide delivery of the quality agenda, ensuring local and national quality and clinical standards initiatives are embedded into practice across the Trust and provide autonomous decision making and advanced professional advice in matters relating to nursing and the wider professional agenda

The post holder will act as a champion for service change and modernisation, providing guidance and advice on developing, embedding and sustaining change into operational practice. A key part of this will be the safe and effective transfer of services from Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust to Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse (RGN, RMN, RSCN)
  • Masters level qualification (or equivalent) in healthcare
  • Leadership course

Knowledge & Nature of Experience

Essential criteria
  • Excellent understanding of the evolving NHS environment.
  • Expert knowledge of the Governance and Risk frameworks required to deliver safe, high quality clinical care
Our current Mental Health Services division may be transferring the provision of its services to Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust (BSMHFT). Whilst at present you are applying for a position within Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation should you be successful in gaining a position within Mental Health Services, your employment may in the future be transferred over to BSMHFT.
