The Media Relations Manager – EMEA and Asia-Pacific collaborates with partners and business leaders to provide media relations advice and execution, focusing on proactive efforts to manage reputation, engage in public conversations about current news issues, and leverage practice area and industry expertise.

This role interacts with lawyers and colleagues across EMEA and Asia-Pacific regions, as part of a global media relations team with peers in London, Paris, and Frankfurt, and a Director based in New York.

The Manager is part of the Global Marketing and Business Development function, an integrated team of over 250 marketers in the Firm’s 46 offices worldwide. This team, led by a new CMO, includes departments such as Business Development, Marketing Technology, Creative Services, Global Events, and Communications.

Together, they drive the Firm's strategic growth through innovative marketing solutions, fostering client relationships, and enhancing the Firm's market presence to achieve business goals and promote the global brand.

Key Responsibilities
  • Driving the EMEA media strategy with proactive planning, tactical coordination, and measurable outcomes in line with the Firm’s business objectives
  • Collaborating with Communications and Business Development teams across EMEA and Asia-Pacific to increase Firm visibility and synchronise media relations with marketing and business development goals
  • Managing several practice-wide and EMEA/APAC-based media relations programmes
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with mainstream media, business trade press, and legal trade press
  • Providing proactive and reactive media relations counsel to partners, lawyers, department heads, and other stakeholders
  • Offering media coaching and preparation to key spokespeople
  • Supporting senior members of the press office when necessary
  • Assisting in managing activities of external public relations agencies
  • Leveraging thought leadership content for various practice areas, industry sectors, and interest groups for media audiences
  • Placing partner-authored by-lined articles in legal and trade publications, and providing editorial guidance to Firm partners and associates as necessary
  • Ensuring effective management of cross-over issues between internal and external communications
  • Generating and pitching story ideas about the Firm’s practices and areas of expertise
  • Managing media monitoring, tracking tangible earned media results, and contributing to media relations activity reports for stakeholders across the Firm
  • Overseeing all assigned media relations initiatives to ensure they are high quality and delivered on time and on message
  • Collaborating with the team’s leadership to contribute to a collegial, engaged, high-performing team and cultivating the career development of all team members
Qualifications and skills
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least seven to 10 years’ experience in communications, including newsroom or in-house content development experience
  • Proficiency in using databases, newswires, and other media relations data sources
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with a focus on storytelling and persuasive communication
  • Proven ability to develop media relations plans and strategies supporting specific business objectives
  • Strong problem-solving, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills across various tasks and audiences
  • Creative thinker skilled at identifying business press issues and opportunities, and developing solutions
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with confidentiality and meticulous attention to detail
  • Client service orientation with a strong judgment, critical thinking, and decisiveness
  • Collaborative attitude, curiosity, and openness to learning about relevant issues and trends for the Firm’s business
  • Ability to work independently and proactively, manage multiple projects under deadlines, and adapt to changing demands across different cultures and geographic region

Location and Reporting

This role is based in our London office, and reports into the Associate Director, Media Relations.

Our standard office hours are 09:30-18:00, with a current requirement for 3 days in the office per week.
