The Corporate Finance Advisory Team advises the Department for Transport on commercial and funding strategies related to some of the UK’s most important transport projects and initiatives. We are looking for experienced corporate finance professionals to join our high performing and highly rated team.

As an adviser, you will work with project and policy teams to understand commercial issues and to provide critical commercial advice, financial analysis and rigorous challenge. This will often include working with transport sector organisations, public sector bodies, local authorities and supply chain partners.

You will also be part of an assurance process that reviews projects to be endorsed by Departmental investment committees. Our corporate finance advisers play a key part in shaping ministerial policy and ensuring that projects deliver Value for Money for the taxpayer.

The Corporate Finance Advisory Team are a well-established, highly skilled and widely respected team of professionals with backgrounds in investment banking, corporate finance, economic regulation, project finance, investment management, and consultancy.

We are looking for candidates who can think strategically, use financial analysis and modelling to support commercial decisions and negotiations and develop deep advisory relationships to collaborate across the Department and beyond.

Great line management is important to us as an organisation, and we will equip and support line managers to develop the skills set out in the Civil Service Line Management Standards. We aim to empower line managers to create teams where people can flourish and deliver excellent outcomes for the public.

Responsibilities

Key accountabilities of the role include a mix of the following:

  • Work with members of the Corporate Finance directorate to plan, structure and execute high value transactions/ projects.
  • Support the rest of the Department, wider public sector and private sector commercial organisations to help drive forward key transport initiatives.
  • Provide corporate finance advice across a range of projects including in relation to: private financing of infrastructure projects, asset sales, private company financing structures, support mechanisms for private investment, and financial terms on complex commercial deals.
  • Provide commercial insight into policy formulation and project development.
  • Assist in managing a portfolio of operational private finance projects, including dispute resolutions and contract variations, and engaging with local authorities and other central government bodies. Manage a changing and developing portfolio of projects ensuring you meet the needs of a differing client base.
  • Develop the commercial skills and capability within the team, including potentially through line management, and across the Department.
