The Innovation and Growth department in the City of London Corporation focuses on topics around the competitiveness of UK financial services across both policy and promotion. It spans three key work themes – ensuring the UK is internationally competitive and a global gateway for financial and professional services; innovative in technology; and a leader in sustainable finance.

The research programme works across these themes, with both external-facing publications and internal analysis. Covering our own work, commissioned pieces and partnerships.

These roles offer an excellent opportunity to help shape and deliver a high-profile research programme, encompassing both policy and international promotion. Working on some of the most important current issues for London’s competitiveness and the UK’s economy.

You will lead and shape research projects and analysis focused on financial and professional services. And play a key advisory role in multi-team projects looking at competitiveness challenges and opportunities, in areas such innovation, trade and investment, and regulation.

You will proactively identify key issues and both carry out and commission analysis to inform policy recommendations and promotional messaging to ensure London and the UK’s financial and professional services offer remains world-leading.

The posts require:

  • Excellent analytical, writing and numeracy skills, and strong experience of carrying out research and analysis using a range of approaches, in particular for a policy audience.
  • The ability to develop and produce work to publication standard, tailored to a range of audiences, and to commission and manage external researchers across a portfolio of complex projects.
  • The ability to identify, analyse and present information and recommendations. To advise colleagues, brief senior stakeholders, and inform a range of external audience needs in both written and verbal form;
  • A highly proactive approach to research, with the demonstrable ability to identify key issues and trends, and produce timely and impactful research and recommendations.

In addition, the Senior Advisor – Financial Services post requires:

  • Significant knowledge, expertise and understanding of financial services and the complex policy, regulatory and market issues influencing London’s and the UK’s competitiveness in financial services;
  • Highly developed skills and experience in carrying out research and data analysis with a financial services industry and markets focus.
