The Patient Access Team has an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic team as a Patient Access clinic coordinator on a permanent basis. This position is well suited to an individual looking to work and gain experience in a thriving and supportive team where training and development is paramount.

The team has a unique trust wide insight into patient services, allowing the successful candidate valuable experience with both medical and surgical bookings/processes for a wide range of specialties, offering our team valuable transferable skills to be able to support them in progressing in their NHS career.

The Patient Access Team provides a Monday to Friday 8.00 to 17.00 patient booking service. Post holders will be required to work shifts to cover these opening hours. The Patient access office is closed bank holidays.

Full-time (37.5hrs a week) - permanent position.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work within University Hospitals Bristol & Weston on our Weston site. The role includes, to book, cancel and alter patient appointments using the Trust’s Patient Administration System and will include ensuring this is done in accordance with the Patient Access Policy and local Referral to Treatment (RTT).
The role of clinic coordinator is often the first point of contact for patients starting their treatment. The role is therefore responsible for setting a high level of patient care and reflecting the Trust’s Values. The department provides a quality patient booking service for all patients, including monitoring and booking the Trusts elective waiting lists in guidance with the trusts waiting time policies and procedures, ensuring maximum efficiency is gained from existing capacity.

Ensuring patients are scheduled in line with local and national guidelines including responsibility for accurate data recording regarding outpatient appointments using trust patient access systems.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE, grade C or above (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clerical / administrative experience, including filing and/or reception
  • Experience of dealing with the public, both on the telephone and in person
Desirable criteria
  • Previous NHS experience
  • Experience of using a Patient Administration System

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Effective and polite manner when dealing with people, both face to face and on the phone
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of accuracy
