Job overview

As a Supply Chain Team Leader, you'll be at the heart of our dynamic supply chain operations. You'll manage the supply of both medical and surgical consumables across all UCLH sites, managing small teams, handling everything from ordering, receiving and checking to distribution and the management of store rooms, products and their suppliers.

Your day-to-day tasks will be varied and engaging, involving problem-solving, investigating discrepancies, and keeping our communication with suppliers/ stakeholders running smoothly. You'll play a key role in ensuring our supply chain functions are efficient and effective.

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys staying active, as it involves a mix of walking, standing, pulling, pushing, bending, stretching, lifting, carrying, unpacking & packing. Plus you'll have the chance to contribute to exciting department improvement and transformational activities, making a real impact on our services.

Applicants should ideally have a sound knowledge of supply chain/logistics practice and some management/leadership experience in the NHS or a similar large complex organisation. You must be confident, articulate and an aspiring leader able to make assess supply chain issues, make appropriate decisions, understand related systems, communicate effectively with customers and also motivate your team.

You will also be a key link between your team and your supervisor/senior managers providing support, advice and cover when your supervisor is off site.

Main duties of the job

To support the Supply Chain Supervisor & Supply Chain Manager to deliver the service of managing the supply of medical consumables, non-medical consumables (exclusions are capital purchases, Sterile Services products, and Pharmaceuticals) to user departments across all UCLH sites.

  • To deliver excellence in the internal supply chain service and all its associated areas including receiving, checking, receipt, distribution, ordering, store management and maintaining appropriate stock levels.
  • IT literacy is important as the service has a growing reliance on systems and the integration of systems to improve efficiency.
  • To support the site team and its supervisor (site manager).
  • Candidates must have a collaborative, supportive and work orientated ethic with a strong empathy for equality, diversity and inclusivity and an understanding of the importance of the trust values in all aspects of our work.

You will need to demonstrate that you are a good team player and able to work across multiple clinical based storage areas. You must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to react positively and helpfully under pressure in a complex and demanding environment.
Importantly you must be a people person able to lead but also empathise, support but also deliver and you must set the example for your team members in terms of behaviour, actions and a desire to be the best person and service for our patients.

Above all you must at all times live and behave in accordance with the Trust values.

You will need to be a highly motivated individual with good organisational skills with a keen eye for detail. You must be able to demonstrate effective problem solving skills to ensure that all aspects of the supply chain service works to the benefit of the trust especially in terms of supply chain and financial management.

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Minimum GCSE pass / NVQ level 2 or equivalent. English and Maths essential.
  • Excellent organisational skills and an ability to work in a pressurised environment and managing small teams
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of working within NHS or other healthcare environments
  • Knowledge of Procurement & Supply Chain (inc. material management) methodologies and concepts (equivalent to NVQ level 3)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous Supply Chain/ Logistics/ Stores experience
  • Experience/ suitable skills of working in a hospital and/or healthcare environment.
  • Experience in Procurement/Supply chain (incl. Materials Management) or related activities.
  • Experience/ suitable skills of working in pressured and challenging multi-site environments
  • Experience of managing a busy workload and completing assignments within set deadlines.
  • Experience/suitable skills in customer focused service
