Job Description

As a Process Engineer, you will play a key role in our Design team, where you'll be responsible for analysing and optimising system designs to ensure efficiency, safety, and reliability. You’ll lead downstream design and process optimisation for hydrogen energy systems, ensuring that designs adhere to industry standards and scalability.

Your expertise in conducting detailed safety assessments such as HAZOPs and LOPAs will ensure robust safety protocols are integrated into our designs.

You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-performing, regulatory compliant solutions. In addition to driving process design, you’ll prepare comprehensive technical documentation, support risk mitigation strategies, and ensure process engineering tasks are completed on time and within budget.

Your work will directly impact the safe and efficient operation of hydrogen energy systems, meeting both regulatory standards and customer needs.

Some of your key duties will be:

  • Analyse and optimise hydrogen energy system designs for maximum efficiency, safety, and reliability.
  • Reconfigure existing processes for scalability and new applications.
  • Lead the downstream design process and act as the key process owner.
  • Play a pivotal role in the HAZOP process and conduct LOPA analyses to assess system hazards and ensure safety measures.
  • Ensure all designs comply with DSEAR, ATEX, and other relevant safety regulations.
  • Perform risk assessments throughout the hydrogen energy process, from design to operation.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies, addressing all potential safety concerns.
  • Collaborate with the wider design team, including controls, electrical, and mechanical engineers, to refine system designs.
  • Provide process improvement guidance, ensuring safety protocols are integrated into designs.
  • Prepare detailed technical documentation, including P&IDs, Control Philosophies, Functional Design Specifications, and safety reports.
  • Drive the safety assessment process and ensure all safety requirements are systematically implemented.
  • Document downstream design requirements for gas release calculations and PSV sizing.

What do you need to hit the ground running?

The successful candidate will possess the following essential skills and experience:

  • Proficiency in P&ID drafting to ISA5.1 standards, with knowledge of mechanical flow and DCS/PLC systems.
  • Experience in authoring LOPA analyses and coordinating HAZOPs.
  • Proven expertise in safety analysis and risk mitigation.
  • Strong knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with safety standards such as IEC 61511, DSEAR, and ATEX regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to draft Control Philosophies and Functional Design Specifications.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD design. (desirable)
  • Experience with mathematical system modelling using MATLAB or similar tools.(desirable)
Skills
  • Strong cross-functional teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
  • Self-starter with a proactive mindset, eager to improve design processes.
  • Self-sufficient and adaptable, with great initiative.
  • A degree in Chemical Engineering is preferred.
  • Candidates with related degrees and extensive industry experience will also be considered.
