We are looking for a well-organised, enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the General Surgery team within Digestive Diseases, as a Senior Admissions Coordinator. This post will include a wide range of duties including the booking of patients’ surgery, liaising with consultant surgeons and organising pre-operative appointments.

You will be required to proactively manage patients' surgery dates in line with Trust Policies and procedures. This role requires attention to detail and accuracy.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Admissions Co-ordinator is responsible for the effective management of surgical waiting lists and the coordination of theatre bookings to ensure patients receive timely, safe and efficient care.

The post holder will work closely with consultants, clinical teams and administrative colleagues to support the delivery of high-quality patient pathways in line with Trust policies, national waiting time standards and cancer targets.

Due to Home Office immigration rules, a full time permanent vacancy cannot be filled by individuals on a Student visa. Therefore, please be advised that if you are a Student visa holder, we will not be able to offer you a full time permanent contract unless you have:

  • applied for a Graduate visa
  • or you will have successfully completed your course and have applied for a Graduate visa before the anticipated start date of your employment
  • or the Trust has agreed that they will Sponsor you as a Skilled Worker and you will complete your studies within 3 months of the anticipated start date of employment

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English at grade A-C (9-4)
Desirable criteria
  • Educated to A level or NVQ level 3 Customer Service/Business Admin or equivalent
  • Further administrative or healthcare related training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a busy clerical/office environment or reception service
  • Prioritising, planning and organising own tasks
  • Working within guidelines
  • Ability to handle challenging conversations with empathy and professionalism
  • Experience of producing documents to a high standard
  • Experience handling sensitive or confidential information
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working for the NHS
  • Knowledge of RTT rules, cancer pathways or NHS booking processes
  • Experience liaising with multidisciplinary teams
  • Data entry experience and documentation
  • Experience managing waiting lists or appointment bookings

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of confidentiality, data protection and information governance
  • Sound knowledge of office procedures
  • Understanding of customer service
  • Knowledge of IT packages, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and awareness of NHS targets and Trust priorities
  • Knowledge of Trust information systems
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
