Food Buyer Initial 6-month contract

Portfolio Procurement has been engaged by our leading Kent based client to recruit for a Food Buyer on an initial 6-month contract.
The role:
To support the strategic purchasing of packaging/ingredients through effective data analysis, forecasting using systems (Microsoft Dynamics & Excel) and market research, with an objective to provide timely availability of materials for operations/production team.
Main responsibilities:
- Negotiate terms of contract.
- Maintain relationships with existing suppliers and source new suppliers.
- Understand the basic rules of vendor management, allocation, and price negotiation.
- Liaise with other departments within the organisation to ensure projects are completed.
- Planning, monitoring, and maintaining suitable inventory levels.
- Raising, placing, and tracking Purchase Orders.
- Ensuring products are purchased at the right time, to specification and at best possible price
- Previous experience as a Buyer within a food manufacturing company
- A strong academic background, with a qualification in a related discipline.
- Advanced excel skills and good knowledge of all other Microsoft products.
- Working knowledge of ERP Systems.
- High attention to detail.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Numerical and analytical skills.
