Special Projects Engineer - Robotics & Embedded Systems
At Marble, we're building the future of autonomous earth observation—and that includes everything on the ground, too.
We’re looking for a Special Projects Engineer to take on one of our most ambitious challenges: build our robotic hangar system. This is the critical infrastructure that enables full automation of UAV operations—charging, maintenance, data offloading, and redeployment, all without human touch.
You’ll be the technical lead on this project, bridging robotics, embedded systems, and mechatronics to design and build a highly reliable, field-ready system. You'll work hands-on with actuators, sensors, firmware, and control systems—and potentially also contribute to the onboard UAV systems as we scale.
What you’ll do- Spearhead key development tasks on building our fully autonomous drone hangar
- Design, prototype, and integrate subsystems across mechanical, electrical, and embedded domains
- Build robust systems for charging, comms, telemetry offloading, and UAV handling
- Own firmware development and system control logic, from low-level drivers to high-level coordination
- Define test plans, run field trials, and iterate fast based on results
- Collaborate closely with the UAV engineering team to ensure seamless integration
- Potentially support embedded systems across the aircraft as needed
Requirements
You’ll be a great fit if you:
- Have strong hands-on experience with embedded systems, robotics, or automation hardware
- Are comfortable building full-stack electromechanical systems—from PCB to firmware to test rig
- Have a track record of prototyping and shipping real-world systems
- Can work across disciplines and figure things out quickly when specs are incomplete
- Are excited by early ownership, fast learning, and the chance to lead something genuinely novel
- Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s in EE, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field
Bonus points for:
- Experience with autonomous ground systems, robotic arms, or industrial automation
- Familiarity with power systems, charging interfaces, and high-reliability design
- Proficiency in C/C++, Python, ROS, or similar
- A background in field robotics, UAV infrastructure, or low-level systems integration
- Previous startup or R&D prototyping experience
Why now?
Autonomous flight is only half the story—ground infrastructure is the key to real scale. This project is one of Marble’s most important strategic bets, and this is your chance to lead it from scratch. You’ll be building systems that make history, not just slide decks.
