The multidisciplinary diabetic foot clinic provides expert assessment and management of diabetic foot complications including foot ulceration. The Department runs clinics at Cumberland infirmary and West Cumberland infirmary. The role would suit someone who is new to or has existing knowledge and experience of working in the NHS.

There is opportunity to learn new skills or build on existing ones. The team is small but aspirational and we aim to provide a comprehensive care plan for our patients to improve outcome.

The hours will be split as follows:

  1. 5hrs at Cumberland Infirmary
  2. 5hrs at West Cumberland infirmary
Main duties of the job
  • To assist the Podiatrists (or other healthcare practitioners) in providing high quality patient care.
  • Maintain patients’ privacy and dignity at all times and provide care in a compassionate and sensitive manner.
  • Be an effective part of the multi-disciplinary team contributing to the departmental objectives.
  • Will contribute to housekeeping and other department duties as required, e.g. general tidiness, stock maintenance, clinical equipment is clean, working and stored correctly.
  • Contributes to the work of the department by working under direct or indirect supervision of registered practitioners or assistant practitioners.

Person specification

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Work in customer focused / caring environment
  • Ability to maintain and improve knowledge, skills and competence to ensure high standards of patient care.
  • Ability to carry out routine elements of assessment to enhance the patient / client journey, following an initial assessment by a registered practitioner.
  • Understanding of confidentiality
Desirable criteria
  • Previous NHS employment.
  • Experience using Trust IT systems e.g. EMiS Web, PAS, ICE.
  • Knowledge of nursing policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE English and Maths or equivalent
  • National Care certificate or commitment to complete as part of induction process
  • Undertaking or willingness to complete recognised Podiatry Assistant qualification or NVQ leve 3 based equivalent

Skills and Aptitudes

Essential criteria
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
