Plant Service Manager & Controller

Role Summary

Jones Bros operates, services, and maintains a fleet of around 1,000 plant and machinery items to meet the core requirements of
its projects. With a dedicated plant department and yard based in Denbigh, North Wales, we are seeking a proactive and skilled

Plant Service Manager & Controller to join our dynamic team.

The Plant Service Manager & Controller is responsible for managing and coordinating service operations to ensure the Jones Bros
heavy equipment fleet is serviced, maintained, and fully operational. Key duties include overseeing the scheduling and dispatching

of service calls, monitoring job progress, and maintaining high standards of service delivery. This ensures that all equipment, including excavators, dumpers, and bulldozers, operates efficiently to support the successful completion of civil engineering

projects.

As the primary point of contact for Fitters and Project Management teams, the Plant Service Manager & Controller handles

inquiries, resolves issues, and collaborates with various departments and the wider Plant Team. The role reports directly to the

Group Plant Manager, providing regular updates and insights on service operations and fleet status.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Service & Breakdown Operations Management
  • Schedule, coordinate, and manage all service & breakdown operations to ensure timely and efficient delivery.
  • Dispatch and track service calls, ensuring effective allocation of resources.
  • Monitor job progress to ensure adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of service and breakdown activities, including job details, materials used, and communications with
clients.
  1. Fleet Maintenance and Management
  • Ensure the regular servicing and maintenance of the fleet, including excavators, dumpers, bulldozers, and other heavy
equipment.
  • Monitor equipment status and schedule necessary maintenance and repairs to minimise downtime.
  • Coordinate with service fitters to ensure the efficient execution of maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Implement and oversee preventative maintenance programmes to extend equipment lifespan and reduce unexpected breakdowns.
  1. Client and Stakeholder Communication
  • Provide regular updates to the Group Plant Manager on service operations and fleet status.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for project management teams regarding service inquiries, issues, and complaints.
  • Provide timely updates on the status of ongoing service jobs, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with sales, logistics, and the wider plant team to optimise service delivery and address logistical challenges.
  1. Team Coordination and Support
  • Assign tasks to service fitters, balancing workloads to ensure efficient resource utilisation.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to service fitters, helping to resolve issues during service operations.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews of service fitters, offering feedback and identifying opportunities for training and
development.
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the service fitters, ensuring team members are motivated, supported, and adhere to
company policies.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive working environment, encouraging teamwork and continuous improvement.
  1. Compliance and Safety
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations across service operations.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety procedures, conduct regular checks, and implement necessary improvements.
  • Document all maintenance and repair work, maintaining records in line with company policies and legal requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a similar role within the plant/heavy equipment sector.
  • Strong technical knowledge related to excavators, dumpers, bulldozers, etc.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and service management software.
