The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.

Mental Health Practitioner - LD Nurse- 5hrs per week

The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary CAMHS team in Liverpool. They will work to engage children, young people with a learning disability and their families in the therapeutic process, supporting the assessment and implementation, under the supervision of an experienced CAMHS clinician, of complex mental health interventions for children and young people
The post holder will be expected to liaise with external agencies including health, education, social care and the voluntary sector and act as a named key worker to children, young people and families accessing Alder Hey CAMH services. Under supervision the post holder will carry out effective and evaluated assessments in line with their own knowledge base and the trust's policies and procedures.
The post holder will also be responsible for enabling effective and meaningful service user participation in the design and delivery of our services through individual and group engagement, facilitation of events/focus groups, supporting the wider CAMHS participation agenda and that of Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.
The post holder will have the ability to self-reflect and be aware to work within their job remit. They will also attend team meetings, regular supervision and will be willing to joint work cases with all members of the multidisciplinary team
Main duties of the job
Main duties of the job- To work directly with children and young people with a learning disability and their families as directed by senior clinicians.
- To maintain patient records (including care plans and risk assessments) in line with trust policy.
- To escalate any risk or safeguarding concerns to senior colleagues and other relevant agencies in line with trust policy.
- To work in the community, including home visits and through agreed activities to positively improve a young person's social and emotional development.
- To work flexibly in order to maximise opportunities for engagement of children, young people and families.
- To develop positive relationships with children, young people and families which actively supports their engagement.
- To identify appropriate activities for young people and develop a local knowledge of youth groups and alternative voluntary projects young people can link with.

This is an exciting opportunity for a mental health engagement practitioner to join the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. The mental health engagement practitioner will be a member of the specialist, multi-disciplinary service and will be supported through supervision by a senior member of the team on a regular basis.The post holder will provide a range of appropriate, evidence based clinical interventions informed by assessed individual need.

Experience
Essential criteria- Experience of working with children and young people and their families in either Health, Social or Education settings
- Experience of working with children and young people who have social, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties
- Experience of the delivery of specific therapeutic interventions to children, young people or their families
- Experience of working and liaising with a wide variety of agencies and stakeholders.
- Experience of working with cultural diverse populations and adapting services to improve access
- Experience of liaising and working effectively with the wider network around the child including educational, social care, family and health.
- Experience of delivering group interventions.
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Understanding of how to work with children and young people who have social, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties
- Knowledge of safeguarding issues and relevant legislation.
- Knowledge of child development
- Knowledge of audit processes
Skills
Essential criteria- Ability to carry out therapeutic mental health interventions with children, their families or parent/carers.
- Assessment and management of children and young people who present with risk.
- Awareness of cultural diversity and ability to incorporate this into care planning and delivery.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work on own initiative, with reference to policies and procedures.
- Skilled at engaging and building relationships with children young people and their families
- Skilled at undertaking holistic assessments of emotional and mental health needs alongside coexisting physical and environmental factors that impact on wellbeing.
