Exciting Opportunity: Communications & Engagement Lead – One Devon EPR Programme
University Hospitals Plymouth Trust is advertising a key role on behalf of the One Devon EPR Programme. This role is crucial in delivering a comprehensive communications and engagement strategy to support the successful implementation of the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system across multiple NHS Trusts.
The EPR system will impact 17,000 staff at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust (TSD) and University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHP), as well as existing users at Royal Devon University Healthcare Foundation Trust (RDUH).
As the Communications & Engagement Lead, you will be responsible for:
- Coordinating communications across three NHS Trusts, ensuring consistent messaging and alignment of activities throughout the One Devon EPR Programme.
- Executing the communications and engagement strategy, tailoring messaging for both internal and external audiences to ensure the successful adoption of the EPR system.
- Creating impactful communication assets and working closely with teams to produce content that resonates with all stakeholders.
- Building and nurturing relationships with key stakeholders, staff, and partner organizations to foster collaboration and engagement.

Main duties of the job- Act as the One Devon Communications and Engagement Strategic Lead and Advisor
- Support the Programme Director and Deputy on the strategic direction of communications & engagement
- To build positive relationships with colleagues at all levels across a complex and geographically dispersed organisations
- To build and maintain effective relationships with engagement and communications leads from a wide variety of system and partner organisations, ensuring clear and effective channels of communications

Detailed job description and main responsibilities- To work in partnership with other organisations to manage complex, multi-agency communications and engagement in relation to our key transformation programmes and where appropriate establish joint working protocols
- To analyse and interpret data in order to develop and deliver action plans and improvements. You will use this to regularly review our approach and make recommendations for change where necessary
- To regularly evaluate your engagement and communications programme and embed learning and good practice across the wider communications team
- To receive and provide highly complex and sensitive information and apply a keen understanding of both local and national politics and their impact
- To work with the Deputy programme Director to identify, record and manage risks and issues in relation to engagement, communications and corporate reputation
- To review and sign off new electronic patient record programme Freedom of Information Act requests, ensuring accurate and high quality responses
- To provide advice and guidance on Freedom of Information Act requests in relation to the new hospital programme and the electronic patient record programme
Person specification
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria- Demonstrable experience of working at senior level in a large organisation
- Manager level and leading a team, including deputising where required to provide increased strategic capacity and resilience in the team
- Ability to deal with complex facts or situations requiring analysis, interpretation and comparison of options and make decisions where opinions differ or there is no obvious solution
- Ability to anticipate and resolve problems before they arise
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to remain calm under pressure, tactful and discreet in all circumstances
- Ability to maintain concentration and lead others calmly in an unpredictable work environment
Qualifications
Essential criteria- Evidence of continuing professional development
- In-depth proven knowledge and understanding of the large corporate systems, current political, national and regional policies
- In-depth proven knowledge and understanding of the relationships and responsibilities of key partners in the health and social care system
- Specialist proven knowledge of communications, public relations, journalism, engagement and marketing communications techniques, approaches, procedures, health service communications, project management acquired through training to relevant degree level or equivalent Training and /or demonstrable experience in communications field to Master’s level equivalent
