Bookkeeper with VAT experience

Join a leading accountancy firm located in the vibrant West End of Edinburgh. Our client is seeking a friendly and enthusiastic Bookkeeper with VAT experience to support their expansion. This role is ideal for someone who is tech-savvy, proactive, and eager to contribute to the improvement and growth of the firm.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Conduct client bookkeeping and prepare VAT returns for a diverse range of clients.
• Organise and control client records for processing through Xero add-ons such as Dext and other integrations.
• Ensure quality control on jobs by using and improving checklists.
• Verify that VAT coding and bookkeeping allocations are correct, ensuring clients pay the correct amount of VAT.
• Maintain awareness of specific VAT rules for different industries, with opportunities for further training on finer details.
• Respond to client queries and proactively chase answers, acting as the first point of contact for some clients.
• Deliver Xero training to clients and assist in setting up Xero for new clients.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Friendly, approachable, and confident in your abilities.
• Tech-savvy with sound experience in Xero, and ideally experience in FreeAgent and QuickBooks.
• Ability to prioritise to meet deadlines and business needs.
• High standard of communication with clients and staff.
• Experience in a similar role, with a proactive and enthusiastic attitude.
• Confidence to suggest improvements and changes to current systems.
