  • The endoscopy team at St George’s has an exciting new role and is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Practice Educator to work with the endoscopy units across the three St Georges Sites: St Georges in Tooting, The Nelson Health Centre in Wimbledon and Queen Mary’s Hospital in Roehampton.
  • The post holder must be willing to spend at least 1 day a week on each site and have significant endoscopy experience. As the Nelson and Queen Mary’s also perform surgical procedures, there is an expectation that the post holder will link in with the surgical education team at St Georges.
  • The successful post holder will work collaboratively with the relevant universities and engage with the Practice Educator Forum.
  • All 3 endoscopy teams are unique, friendly and dynamic and will welcome the addition of a Practice Educator.
Main duties of the job
  • To act as a role model and demonstrate expertise in delivering evidence-based practice.
  • To work in accordance with the Department of Health, Nursing & Midwifery Council and Trust policies relating to infection control, safeguarding children/adults, standards of record keeping, medicines management, learning disabilities, privacy and dignity and other policies as appropriate to the specialist area.
  • Be responsive to the changing needs within the practice areas in relation to local and national policy and guidance.
  • To work clinically in practice 60% of the time as part of the clinical area’s establishment (included in the off-duty) – pro rata unless alternative arrangements have been agreed with the Lead Nurse/Unit Manager.
  • Work in a patient facing area to provide hands-on training to staff which may involve some frequent light physical effort for several short periods by moving patients or educational equipment and unpleasant smells/odours.
  • To divide time between all 3 sites, to include 1 day/week at QMH, 1 day/week at the Nelson Health Centre and 2 days/week at SGH.
  • To assist with the review, development and implementation of standard operating procedures and ensure that staff and processes within this area are regularly updated.
