An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Office Administrator and Typist to join the busy office team of the Specialist Weight Management Service (SWMS). The SWMS is a, Tier 3, MDT service consisting of Consultant Endocrinologists and Diabetologists, a GP with Specialist Interest, Clinical Psychologists, Dietitians, Physiotherapists, Specialist Nurse, Senior Support Worker, Clinical Support Workers and Administrators.

Since its beginning, approximately 15 years ago, the SWMS has grown quickly and now provides a Tier 3 service to the areas of Hartlepool, Stockton-On-Tees, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland, Whitby, Hambleton and Richmondshire. It has recently expanded into other areas of North Yorkshire, and up to South Tyneside.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will have administrative duties to help with the efficient running of the Specialist Weight Management Service (SWMS). This will involve working with telephones, computers, electronic medical records systems, typing systems and with the SWMS administration team helping to support the smooth running of the service.

The successful applicant will have good written, verbal communication skills, good IT skills and be able to demonstrate excellent team working skills and compassionate care. Previous experience of working in a healthcare administration setting will be advantageous.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE’s English and Maths A-C or equivalent qualification or equivalent work experience
  • NVQ 2 in Business Administration or equivalent experience or equivalent work experience

Experience

  • Previous experience of typing & office working.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Acknowledge own limits of skills, competences and responsibilities and work within them. Exemplary telephone manor and communication skills.
  • Well established IT skills (Windows and Microsoft Office skills are essential).
  • Excellent listening skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills/ flexibility
  • Ability to handle difficult situations in a calm, professional and compassionate manor, such as a person making a complaint

Disclosure and Barring Checks (DBS)

It is now the policy of South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who are new to the Trust who require DBS clearance for the post they have been offered, are required to pay the cost of their DBS. The method of payment for this is via salary deduction from your first month's pay.
