Professional ResponsibilitiesPromote collaborative working partnerships and effective communication between all members of the multi-disciplinary team.Ensure professional and clinical standards are maintained and developed in response to new evidence.Act as a supportive professional role model for midwifery, providing midwifery care in accordance with the NMC Midwives rules and codes of practice.
Key ResponsibilitiesTo provide care to women and birthing people coming through the Maternity Outpatients Service. This may be from providing clinical care, including observations, palpations, CTG assessments, Pre-Op checking, or venepuncture to providing emotional support/counselling following scans/appointments.

To provide advice and counsel women on screening tests available, ensuring that sound up to date advice is given to women and birthing people in all care settings in accordance with best practice, informed by NICE and Government initiatives.To relay blood test results to appropriate clinicians and patients and take appropriate action when necessary.To ensure the booking/referral pathway is effective, identifying any areas for improvement and being proactive in discussing and implementing new ways of working.To ensure the correct pathway of care is followed, as per their personalised care plans and arranging referrals/scans when required.Ensure GAP/GROW charts are correct for each individual, and appropriate pathways are followed.To ensure bookings coming through the clinic are completed and any outstanding information required is followed up.

To ensure blood results are highlighted, actioned and any follow up care arranged. To undertake the organisation and running of the Anti D clinic, Birth after caesarean (BAC) clinic and diabetic services alongside other members of the midwifery team.Provide midwifery leadership in all areas of midwifery practice, demonstrating autonomy, advocacy for women and birthing people and an excellent decision-making style.Support the clinical teams and Band 7 Team Managers in the execution of their role.Demonstrate effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

Clinical ResponsibilitiesAssess, plan implement and evaluate care for women, birthing people and their babies, using evidence to rationalise prescribed care.Provide expert advice on the referral of women and birthing people to high-risk care.Develop parent information and education and lifestyle opportunities for women and birthing people receiving care.Develop link with all care agencies to facilitate seamless approach to maternity care.Ensure effective communication between clients, relatives, carers and colleagues.Practice within boundaries of autonomy as described by the NMC Code 2015.Review practices to reduce clinical risk.

Record and report any untoward incidents and take action to avoid further incidents.Promote the wellbeing and safeguarding of children and young people by implementing the Trusts policy and procedures, acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately.Work in collaboration with midwifery and nursing leads for Safeguarding Children.

Where appropriate initiate and support others in taking action in accordance with local Safeguarding policies.Demonstrate innovation through the introduction and maintenance of a quality approach to service provision by setting, implementing, monitoring and evaluating standards of care.Collect, collate and where needed present clinical and operational data for the service and contribute to the service dashboard.Inspire colleagues to provide a high standard of practice based on current guidelines, policies, and protocols to improve standards quality and to develop professional practice.Demonstrate the ability to initiate change and develop practice in light of knowledge gained through reflection, research and audit.To support the wider unit in all areas of practice if required, working to the needs of the service.Be accountable for own professional actions in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct; for the Nurse, Midwife and Health Visitor.Create an environment in which excellent clinical care will flourish and individuals take ownership for their own development.Work with the Maternity Outpatient Manager and Inpatient Matron to promote high quality autonomous midwifery antenatal care.Maintain a clinical environment within the Maternity Outpatient Service that is conducive to high standards of care.Work with the multidisciplinary team to plan, implement and evaluate care for women and birthing people to ensure they are on the correct antenatal pathway.Provide expert advice to others, educating and supporting midwives and junior obstetric staff in the antenatal clinical areas.Provide proactive support, and where necessary challenge, to ensure that clinical flow and pathways are efficient, and women and birthing people centred.Provide direct clinical care and support in all areas of the maternity service as dictated by the Maternity Escalation status.

Clinical GovernanceBe accountable for ensuring that Clinical Governance standards are upheld in the antenatal services pathways, working with the Governance and Patient Safety Midwife; the Clinical Effectiveness Midwife, Audit Lead and the Practice Development team to respond to information and advice provided and to ensure that patient safety and quality standards are maintained.Within area of responsibility, ensure that all risks (clinical and non-clinical) are identified, assessed and reported on the Directorate risk register and take appropriate action, with the senior management team as appropriate, to mitigate risks highlighted.Participate in the review and analysis of clinical incidents within the Maternity Outpatients service.

Service development implementationAssess and teach others in the clinical setting.Participate in Preceptorship and Mentorship within the clinical settings.Attend updates and refresher study session and mandatory study days. Information resourcesInput information and have a working knowledge of the hospital information systems.Attend training and updates on implementation of Maternity Information System Research and Development ResponsibilitiesParticipate or lead in multi-disciplinary developments, projects and audits within the ward/department, involving research, audit, and quality and risk management.Demonstrate clinical competence and fitness to practice.Involvement in clinical audit and evaluation of practice within the clinical area.Promote and disseminate research and audit findings.Contribute ideas and undertake monitoring with regards to quality of women-centred care Personal skillsMaintain personal professional profile including evidence of professional development within midwifery, and any other extended role.Identify and negotiate training needs, and actively address these through the Trusts appraisal system.Maintain an awareness of issues relating to midwifery on the national agenda.Keeps up to date with current issues relating to obstetric ultrasound for example liaising with Perinatal Institute and other related professional bodies to ensure current practice is evidence based.Ensures the frequency of own practice affords maintenance of skill levels.Able to organise and manage the unpredictable nature of referrals, co-ordinating them into a workable day alongside midwifery duties, adhering to time schedules whilst maintaining the quality of the service.Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Co-ordinate the responsibilities, capabilities and workload of team members
