Teaching Assistant – SEMH Residential School (Ellesmere Port)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated team in a residential SEMH school in Ellesmere Port. This full-time, temporary role has the potential to become permanent for the right candidate. The school seeks an empathetic, driven individual with experience in similar settings, who can provide essential support to vulnerable students in both their academic and personal development.

About the Role

The successful candidate will work closely with students, providing tailored support in and out of the classroom. The role involves helping students engage with a well-structured curriculum, offering continuous support across the full 24-hour learning journey to ensure they receive the guidance they need.

Many students have faced challenges in education, so the school takes a creative, individualised approach to learning. Personalised education plans set ambitious but realistic targets, helping each student achieve their potential. In addition to academic learning, students benefit from access to a Nurture Base, Art Therapy, Forest School, and Outdoor Pursuits curriculum, ensuring a holistic approach to their development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH) in their learning and personal growth.
  • Assisting in the delivery of individualised education plans to help students achieve their full potential.
  • Encouraging positive behavior and providing a safe, structured, and engaging environment.
  • Collaborating with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to provide consistent, well-rounded support.
  • Helping students develop essential life skills to support their transition into further education or employment.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Has experience working with SEMH students in alternative provisions, residential settings, or specialist schools.
  • Is empathetic, resilient, and committed to supporting vulnerable students.
  • Can build strong relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills and a flexible approach to learning.
  • Is passionate about creating a positive and inspiring educational experience.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
