- Location: Chester
- Reports to: Head of Finance
- Salary Range: £30,000 – £35,000 (depending on experience and location)
- Job Type: Full-time – Initial 6-month FTC with potential to go permanent
This role is crucial for ensuring accurate processing of client and office transactions, supporting the finance team, and contributing to the smooth financial operation of the practice.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Maintain accurate client and office ledgers.
- Process all financial transactions including receipts, payments, transfers, and disbursements.
- Ensure compliance with SRA Accounts Rules and anti-money laundering regulations.
- Perform daily bank reconciliations and monitor cash flow.
- Manage CHAPS, BACS, and international payments.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns and assist with audits.
- Produce daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports.
- Assist with year-end accounts and liaise with external auditors.
- Monitor and report any breaches or irregularities in financial transactions.
- Raise and process invoices and ensure timely payments.
- Liaise with solicitors, clients, banks, and regulatory bodies.
- Support payroll and petty cash functions where required.
- Maintain confidentiality and data protection standards.
- Complete file closures in accordance with current procedures.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in legal finance or bookkeeping.
- Knowledge of SRA Accounts Rules and legal accounting procedures.
- Proficiency in legal accounting software (e.g., Leap, SOS, Xero).
- Strong Excel and IT skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
