We have vacancies for Patient Catering Hosts to join our patient catering team within our busy A&E department.
This is a 5 out of 7 day working varied shifts. Enhancements and Overtime available.
To provide high standards of both food and customer services to patients in accordance to best care practices.
Duties will include providing catering services throughout the day, including beverages whilst ensuring the ward and kitchen environments are kept to an acceptable level of cleanliness.
Main duties of the job
As a patient catering host you will help to enhance our patient well-being and their experience in the hospital.
Working closely with other hospital staff you will be expected to deliver a great level of customer service to all patients, visitors and staff.
Ensuring a high quality food and beverage service is provided (Provision of meals and hot or cold beverages).
To communicate with Patients and visitors over their food choices and issues with the service that is being delivered in a tactful and courteous manner.
To maintain a pleasant customer focussed manner at all times.
Carry out cleaning duties and maintain hygiene levels to ensure Food Hygiene Legislation, Environmental Health Officer requirements and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point Procedures are conformed to and maintained.
To ensure all Codes of Practice for Food Safety, Health & Safety, Infection prevention, COSHH and HACCP are adhered to.
To monitor levels of food waste and report back to the Patient Catering Supervisors/ Co-ordinators.
To report maintenance defects and problems immediately to the Patient Catering Supervisors / Team Co-ordinators.
Security of all Trust property when on duty, in accordance with Departmental Policy.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will be responsible for providing an efficient food and beverage service to patients on wards ensuring that food and beverages meets patients medical, dietary and cultural needs.
You will help to prepare the service areas with the necessary equipment, such as crockery, and condiments. In addition, you will be responsible, maintaining a high standard of hygiene and food handling, whilst ensuring all food served to patients is easily accessible.
Full uniform, on the job training and full Trust induction will be given so experience although desired is not essential.
Ensuring a high quality food and beverage service is provided (Provision of meals and hot or cold beverages). Ensure correct storage, labelling and rotation of chilled produce is followed and relevant temperature monitoring is undertaken. To maintain food quality and service at all times and to action any defects immediately and proactively.
To maintain a pleasant customer focussed manner at all times.

Essential criteria- Ability to follow instructions
- Ability to multi task effectively and move from one task to another rapidly when priorities change.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure or challenging situations.

- Excellent customer service skills
- Self-motivated to work under minimal supervision
- Able to undertaken the frequent physical duties of the role such a moving laden meal trolleys, carrying trays of food, operation of dishwashing etc
- Ability to carry out the full range of duties once trained
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria- Previous experience of working in a customer facing role.
- Knowledge of good health & safety practices.
- Working to deadlines with urgency
- Knowledge & Understanding of different dietary & cultural needs
- Knowledge of food safety protocols
- Customer service training.
- Food service training
- Experience of working in a food based industry
- Knowledge of special dietary requirements
Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria- No formal education is required as on the job instruction, training and theoretical knowledge is provided. Therefore the ability to retain information and learning is essential together with excellent communication skills (oral and written).
- Be willing to undertake the Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
- NVQ/Apprenticeship in catering / hospitality / customer service.
