Teacher of English

To join us from the end of August 2025 (or 30th June 2025 for an available ECT year 1 candidate).

Beaumont Leys School is a highly successful 11-16 school. We are very proud of the progress our students make, and the destinations that our students go on to; many of our students have challenging backgrounds and low prior attainment on intake and so we are the beacon of hope for their futures.

We believe that a high quality education leads not only to transformative exam results for students, but also in great character development. We want students to feel that they belong in our school and develop their sense of self-worth alongside an understanding of the positive impact they can have on those around them.

Together We Achieve Success is our motto and the driving force for our school. Our students thrive because our staff are dedicated to students’ success; to building positive relationships; and to collaborating and working as a team within a supportive environment.

We are a school with a heart and soul, and we believe our job is to give our students the best possible chances in life, creating some fantastic lifelong memories along the way.

The English Faculty, at Beaumont Leys School, has an excellent reputation for getting the best out of our students and our staff. We are hardworking and dedicated and believe in going the extra mile to help support our students. We are a very friendly and supportive department who try very hard to make all our staff feel valued and appreciated.

Currently we have a department of eleven teachers. We also have a faculty support assistant, who supports the faculty with administration and other organisational tasks. The faculty is led by a Faculty Team Leader who currently works with three Assistant Faculty Team Leaders.

We are a highly effective, cohesive team, sharing a vision of success for all our students.

Our school population is divided into two and within these bands, in English, students are mainly taught in sets, according to their attainment; except for current Year 7, who are taught in tutor groups.

In the English Faculty we have a suite of English classrooms each with an interactive whiteboard. All teachers have a laptop. There are 30 bookable laptops and iPads for classroom use and each classroom has a class library for private reading.

We have an English workroom and a hub for students to work in. We also work closely with our school librarian; we consider our library to be the heart of our school and encourage collaboration between the faculty and the library.

English is a real strength within our school. Currently, we teach the AQA syllabus for English Language and Literature and all students complete both GCSEs. We have a history of consistently good results.

We work hard to recruit the best and then we support them to be even better. Our internal promotion record is impressive, even our Headteacher started with us as a newly qualified teacher. We engage extensively with local ITT providers, including Teach First and Researchers into School, and provide an excellent ECF support programme and a strong and well-evaluated programme of professional learning.

Our teachers are always learners and as such role model everything we want for our students. Therefore, if you want a forward thinking, dynamic school to take your career to the next level, we would welcome your application.

We are committed to keeping children and young people safe from harm and abuse and to promoting their welfare, and we expect that everyone who comes to work for us will share the same commitment.

All roles within the school are covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975, and are subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Ofsted Rating: Good in March 2020
