We are seeking an experienced piano teacher and accompanist to join our vibrant Music Department from September 2025. Working in tandem with another member of staff in the Department, accompanying work will include the following as and when required:

  • Accompanying ABRSM exams, including Grade 8 and ARSM.
  • Accompanying Music Scholarship auditions.
  • Assisting with preparation for and accompanying GCSE and A Level recitals.
  • Accompanying pupils and ensembles in concerts and school events

UCS has a highly regarded and exceptionally busy Music Department, with a programme of 30 concerts per year. There are over 70 Music Scholars at the school, so you will have the opportunity to work with some very gifted young musicians, including those who attend Junior conservatories.

The piano teacher is also required to teach at least a full day’s list of pupils.

Accompanying work is paid on an hourly rate of £57.70 and is an employed position reimbursed through the submission of a monthly timesheet. As a piano teacher you will join our roster of Visiting Music Teachers who are self-employed. The current UCS lesson rate is £32 for a 35 minute lesson.

For more information please visit https://www.ucs.org.uk/about/work-at-ucs/ and click apply now to download an application form and send your completed copy to recruitment@ucs.org.uk

In addition to completing the accompanying form, applicants should provide a full Curriculum Vitae and a supporting letter.

Closing date: Midday, Monday 2nd June 2025.

Please note that we reserve the right to interview and appoint at any stage during this process; early applications are therefore very welcome.

University College School is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful applicant will be required to undertake an Enhanced check for Regulated Activity from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) before a formal offer of employment is made.

This is a requirement as the position is within a school working with children aged under 18. UCS will also undertake its own recruitment checks through contact with previous employers, referees, and others, to confirm applicants' identities and their professional records.
