Teaching Assistant (SEN) - Supporting Children with Complex Needs in Harrogate
About Us
Are you a caring and proactive individual with a passion for making a difference? Join our supportive team in Harrogate, where you'll provide essential support to children with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) across various schools.We’re especially looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support a busy, welcoming school, with opportunities to work at other nearby schools according to your availability.
Role Responsibilities
In this rewarding role, you'll be at the heart of supporting students with complex needs by:
- Engaging actively with pupils to meet their individual needs with empathy and care.
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support, ensuring each child feels supported, safe, and valued.
- Assisting with personal care, feeding, and mobility as needed.
- Facilitating sensory activities such as hydrotherapy, using sensory rooms, and other therapeutic practices to enrich the pupils' experiences.
- Collaborating with teachers and support staff to bring Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) to life.
- Using specialized resources and equipment to help children engage meaningfully with their learning.
- Building strong, positive connections with pupils to promote a sense of comfort, trust, and encouragement.
- Monitoring pupil progress and helping to adjust support plans to meet evolving needs.
What We’re Looking For
We’d love to hear from applicants who:
- Have experience working with children or young people with PMLD or similar complex needs.
- Are familiar with sensory activities like hydrotherapy and sensory room experiences.
- Bring a hands-on, positive attitude and are ready to offer personal care, including feeding and manual handling.
- Are comfortable using both verbal and non-verbal communication skills to build relationships with pupils.
- Are flexible to work across different schools in the Harrogate area.
- Child and Adult DBS certificate (we can help with this if you don’t have one).
- Previous experience in an SEN environment or care role is preferred.
- A Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or 3) or experience with assistive technology would be a plus.
- Moving and handling, hoisting, or first aid training is beneficial.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
