Job overview

We are looking for a motivated, proactive and enthusiastic Pharmacist to lead our pharmacy team in the development of a high quality and specialised pharmacy service to the Diabetes & Endocrinology division across the Trust.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic, innovative and friendly team dedicated to improving our Diabetes and Endocrinology services. In this key post you will be working as part of an established multidisciplinary team and be responsible for leading and shaping high-quality clinical pharmacy services to diabetes and endocrinology in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

The post holder will work closely with the Consultants, Pharmacy Managers, and the General Manager for the service to lead on pharmacist led lipid and other outpatient clinics and oversee inpatient care to the speciality within the Diabetes and Endocrinology service.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate an excellent leadership and management skills, be flexible and work well leading a team with excellent problem-solving & time management skills. Applicants must be currently registered with the GPhC as a pharmacist and completed the clinical pharmacist diploma.

An independent prescribing qualification is essential. Successful candidates will need excellent communication and interpersonal skills and enjoy working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with problem-solving skills for highly complex clinical queries.

Main duties of the job

As an enthusiastic and patient oriented pharmacist, you will combine expert opinion and expert practice to benefit patient care, and work at the forefront with the multidisciplinary team to help us implement, deliver and continually improve medicines management.

Overall, you will be responsible for:

Strategically leading the clinical pharmacy services provided to Diabetes and Endocrinology including liaising with primary care.

The development and delivery of inpatient and outpatient pharmacy clinical services to Diabetes and Endocrinology.

Promoting the safe, efficient and cost-effective prescribing within Diabetes and Endocrinology

Identifying the training needs of all staff and developing strategies to meet them in order for staff to undertake the roles required within Diabetes and Endocrinology.

This position is looking for someone that is an expert in diabetes and endocrinology. You will need excellent consultation, communication, interpersonal and time management skills and will need to enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

You will also need post-registration experience relevant to hospital pharmacy and will have the Post Graduate Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice or equivalent qualification.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Master’s degree in Pharmacy
  • Registered as a Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Diploma Pharmacy Practice
  • Independent prescriber
Desirable criteria
  • MSc in Clinical Pharmacy Practice
  • Evidence of formal management training

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant clinical pharmacy experience in Diabetes and Endocrinology
  • Experience of managing a small team
  • Excellent ability to manage change within the pharmacy department and within medical and nursing teams to drive service improvements
  • Experience of working as a specialist pharmacist
  • Demonstrates strategic thinking
  • Experience of identifying training needs and delivering education and training programmes for all clinical staff groups
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of publishing in a peer reviewed journal
  • Evidence of collaborative regional work
  • Experience of delivering research projects and influencing changes in practice
  • Evidence of managing and developing a pharmacy service or section.
  • Experience with drug expenditure reporting
