Are you a dedicated registered Pharmacy Technician looking for a new challenge within a diverse, fast paced setting? An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to become part of an integrated clinical workforce at HMP Kirklevington.

Pharmacy Technicians are forming an essential part of our excellence in care long-term plan and as a result are taking on more diverse patient-facing roles. No two days are the same working in our friendly and supportive team.

We aim to be flexible in matching your availability with our work patterns and the needs of the service and therefore we are also able to offer part time and flexible working options.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to support and develop the skills of pharmacy technicians to provide a varied range of services as well as some dispensary-based work. If you are interested in this post, you will need a minimum of NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy services and be a registered pharmacy technician.

An accuracy checking pharmacy technician would be desirable, however we would be willing to provide training after a probationary period has been completed.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences
  • Appropriate accredited technician checking qualification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of medicines optimisation issues
  • Pharmacy legal requirements and controlled drug legislation
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of pharmacy computer systems
  • Has a good understanding of security issues in relation to the prison environment
  • Substance misuse knowledge

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good clinical pharmacy knowledge including terminology
  • Computer literate- able to use Word and Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to prepare reports and bulletins
  • Influencing skills
  • Able to use Microsoft PowerPoint and Outlook (or competent to complete) Patient counselling skills
  • Has a good understanding of data protection and confidentiality issues
  • Ability to work in a complex and challenging environment
  • Able to demonstrate a good standard of literacy and numeracy
Desirable criteria
  • Able to interpret and understand prescribing information
  • Medicines supply / administration direct to the patient
  • Smoking cessation advisor
  • Experience of Immunisation and vaccinations
  • Experience of capillary blood testing procedures

Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 3 years post-qualification experience of working in community/hospital pharmacy
  • Experience of working with potentially aggressive people
  • Experience of working within challenging and complex situations
  • Able to provide examples of diversity in practice
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with substance misusers/services
  • Experience of working in a prison environment or similar setting
