The Radiotherapy Service in Truro is looking for Therapeutic Radiographers with a professional manner and high personal standards and drive. The department has a wide bore CT scanner with contrast and 4DCT, two beam matched Truebeam linear accelerators with cone beam CT, SGRT, 6DoF couches, 4D CBCT & electron facilities, and a Superficial Treatment Unit.

In addition to this, the service runs Radiographer-led clinics involving prostate support, on-treatment review, late effects , and follow up clinics. We are looking for someone to work within the pre-treatment and treatment teams during this exciting time of continued service development across all areas.

Applicants must have a high level of technical competence, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be self-motivated and hardworking with a positive can-do attitude. The ability to remain calm under pressure and to integrate well with the existing teams are essential attributes of any applicants.

Hours of work may be flexible and will reflect the needs of the Service. Radiotherapy treatment is routinely delivered with shifts between 7.30am and 6.00pm, Monday to Friday, some shift working may be required on Service days until 8pm.

Main duties of the job

As part of the team, you will be responsible for the accurate delivery of radiotherapy and the management and supervision of patients through the review, pre-treatment and treatment processes.

Responsible for maintaining the highest professional standards in the care and treatment of patients undergoing radiotherapy in line with nationally and locally agreed standards.

Responsible for the accurate pre and post processing of treatments / checking and interpretation of treatment plans and prescriptions.

Responsible for calculation of v-sim treatments and checking correct data entry on the treatment computer.

Responsible for the safe use of highly complex and expensive equipment

Responsible for ensuring that junior members of staff and students are trained appropriately and follow departmental procedures.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • HCPC registration
  • Level 4 in English or equivalent, or IELTS level 7
  • Specific interest in working in Cornwall
  • Fully completed application form with attention to detail
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Willingness to undertake M level post graduate work based learning and/or academic study

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 4 years post graduate experience
  • Evidence of project work
  • Demonstrate good theoretical knowledge of treatment techniques
  • Worked in an NHS environment
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in pre-treatment
  • Experience working on Truebeam linear accelerators
  • Experience using SGRT

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication, listening, verbal and non-verbal skills
  • Ability to teach, train and motivate others
Desirable criteria
  • Good organisational skills
