Principal Safety Consultant - Defence
Experience of implementing safety and or environmental management in the defence industry is essential with experience from other high hazard sectors, such as oil and gas or chemical industry being of interest.
This role is hybrid, with candidates considered from the whole of the South of England.
Due to the nature of the work undertaken here at RPS candidates will be required to undergo the security clearance process.

The RPS Defence team has been a leading provider of technical assurance in defence safety and risk consultancy services to clients in the UK for over 30 years. We provide our core safety and environmental assessment services, including management support and independent audit to both MOD and defence supply chain organisations and some other non defence, exciting technology based clients.

What you’ll be doing:
- Developing lasting relationships and frameworks with clients
- Perform safety and or environmental management support and Independent Safety and/or Environmental Audit across a range of domains
- Lead and mentor junior staff
- Business and service development support
Who we’re looking for:
- Understanding of UK safety regulations and supporting assessment techniques and software tools.
- Understanding of UK Defence Sector.
Core competencies include:
- Hazard identification and analysis
- Qualitative and quantitative risk assessment
- Safety Case and Hazard Log development
- Independent Safety Audit
- Degree held within a STEM subject and working to Chartership
- Excellent numeracy, reporting writing, attention to detail and time management skills
- Self-motivated team player with interpersonal skills
- Enthusiastic and looking to learn new skills
- Be able to multitask and work within budget and deadlines
Because of the nature of the work we undertake, this post is required to meet special nationality rules and therefore is only open to British Citizens (as defined in the British Nationality Act 1981). All selected candidates will also be expected to be able to hold SC or DV clearance.

What happens next?
The selection process is likely to be a two-stage competency and behavioural interview. Initial interview via MS Teams and then if successful followed by an interview at the office in Basingstoke.
