Job overview

The successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for the successful delivery of IM&T projects, enabling the Trust to continue its successful Digital Transformation and Journey Towards Outstanding.

You will have a background delivering IM&T projects within healthcare and will be able to bridge the gap between I.T. infrastructure and clinical applications, having a good, high level technical understanding of both areas. You will be a meticulous planner, a forthright and clear communicator and an extremely proactive individual.

NHS environments are challenging, colleagues have many different interests competing for their time, so in order for the Trust to deliver its strategic aims you will have to actively push and promote the IM&T agenda. You will anticipate risks and discern issues, own problems and identify viable solutions as part of your project management activities.
You will provide leadership to the project teams you assemble and you will motivate the colleagues that comprise them to deliver their best. You will ensure that the projects you manage deliver products that the end users are happy to receive and that fulfil their expectations and the needs of the patient.

Main duties of the job
  • Lead Project Teams towards successful completion of IM&T projects.
  • Work with senior stakeholders to define Project Briefs and create scopes of work.
  • Devise and maintain thorough detailed and relevant project plans, ensuring that projects adhere to these plans.
  • Responsible for building and matrix managing a team of project staff where applicable, these may be resourced from within the I.T. Department, other departments or external agencies. Duties may include training, development and supervision during the project life cycle.
  • Maintain a view and an understanding of the wider IM&T programme, the interdependencies between projects and their impact on the realisation of strategic goals.
  • To identify issues and work with Project Teams to devise imaginative solutions so that projects are delivered within tolerance while delivering the forecast benefits.
  • To be an exemplar and leader within the IM&T Project Team, to demonstrate what excellent project management looks like and provide support and guidance to other members of the team.
  • To manage suppliers, gain best value for the Trust & ensure that the Trust’s requirements are treated as a priority.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Experience
  • Project Management experience in an acute healthcare environment.
  • Experience leading projects implementing clinical systems and/or I.T. infrastructure.
  • Experience leading and inspiring teams.
  • Management in an NHS I.T. environment and working knowledge of I.T. systems in a healthcare environment.
Job Activities
  • Demonstrate in-depth technical knowledge of project management methodologies and tools.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Explain technical issues to non-technical teams or individuals.
  • Inspire and motivate others through strong leadership skills.
  • Negotiate effectively and provide training and mentoring support.
  • Utilise strong knowledge of modern I.T. infrastructure and applications, particularly in healthcare contexts.
  • Apply knowledge of I.T. Project Management and its healthcare applications.
  • Demonstrate understanding of NHS procurement, contract policies, and governance.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant Degree / Masters in I.T. field or equivalent experience
  • Prince 2 Practitioner
  • Working knowledge of I.T. systems in a healthcare environment
Desirable criteria
  • Project Management experience in an acute healthcare environment
  • Experience leading projects implementing clinical systems / I.T. infrastructure
  • Good working knowledge of modern I.T. infrastructure and applications used in healthcare contexts
  • Strong knowledge of I.T. and technical management procedures
  • A good understanding of governance within the NHS
